Annexure – I
A switch is an electrical device that controls the flow of current in a circuit. Every electronic
and electrical application uses at least one switch to perform on and off operation of the device.
The switches are further classified into two types they are electrical switches and mechanical
switches. The one-way (single-pole), two-way (double-pole) are the two types of an electrical
switch. The two-way switch is used to on/off the light, fan from two different locations. This
article discusses the two-way switch wiring function.
The Benefits of a two-way switch is the ability to control a single device from two separate
locations. A convenient and apt use for them is for locations like stairways, a long corridor or a very
large room. So, imagine, it is late at night and you are at the bottom of a stairway. You flip the
switch ON to light up the stairs as you walk up. Once you have reached the top of the stairs, with a
two-way switch you can simply flip the switch to put the stairway light OFF. The same goes for a
long corridor or a large room with more than one entrances. The two-way switch is also super
convenient to use as light switch, and possibly the ceiling fan, with the 2nd location accessible
besides your bed. So, no trouble of getting out of your bed to operate these appliances.

3.0 Proposed Methodology
This is the first method to make a 2-way switching connection, this is the old method. If you
are going to install a new one then go for three wire control methods. As you see in the 2 way switch
diagram below, you will find that the phase/live is connected with the common of the first 2-way
switch. PIN1 & PIN2 of the first switch are connected with the PIN1 & PIN2 of the second switch
respectively. One end of the bulb is connected with the Common Terminal of the second switch and
another end of the Bulb is connected with the Neutral line of the AC power supply
