- Checking of the attendance
A. Engage
1. Drill Direction: Multiply the given problem.
1. 3 x 4 =
2. 6 x 6 =
3. 5 x 5 =
4. 9 x 2 =
5. 7 x 6 =

2. Review The teacher will ask the students’ about

the previous topic and its type.

B. Explore
1. Motivation Ask the students if they ever shared a
pizza or divided a cake. Then, let the
students answer the worksheet below.

Direction: Prepare a ¼ sheet of paper.

Answer the appropriate fraction each
item.
2. Presentation Introduce the concept of fractions by
showing different examples of objects
divided into part (e.g.,pizzas, cakes or
pie). Ask the students if they can identify
the fraction of each part in the examples
shown.

3. Activity Provide each student with a worksheet

containing various simple fractions.
Instruct the students to identify and label
each fractions as either proper or
improper fraction , or mixed fractions.
Circulate the classroom to provide
assistance and answer any questions that
may arise.

C. Explain
- How was the activity?
- Is there any misconceptions
about the proper and
improper fractions , and
mixed fractions?
1. Discussion Gather the students’ together and discuss
their findings from the exploration.

Define proper fractions as fractions

where the numerator is less than the
denominator.

Define improper fractions as fractions

where the numerator is equal to or
greater than the denominator.

Define mixed fractions as a

combination of a whole number and a
proper fraction.

To multiply fractions..

There are 3 simple steps to multiply

fractions

1. Multiply the top numbers

(the numerators).

2. Multiply the bottom numbers

(the denominators).

3. Simplify the fraction if needed.

Example:

1/2 × 2/5

Step 1. Multiply the top numbers:

1/2 × 2/5 = 1 × 2 = 2

Step 2. Multiply the bottom numbers:

1/2 × 2/5 = 1 × 2 / 2 × 5 = 2 / 10
Step 3. Simplify the fraction:

2 / 10 = 1 / 5
