Pattern

Leaves
Each leaf “strand” is worked individually.
Using green yarn, make 9:

Row 1: Work ch until length of chain measures between 12” and 18”, turn. Make each strand a
different size to help with the realism of your plant!

Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook Work a sl st into the first sc you just worked

ch2 Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook Work a sl st into the first sc

you just worked

Row 2: Work 6 sc in the 2nd ch from hook, then work a sl st into the first sc you just worked. This
completes the first “leaf”. *sl st in the next five ch stitches, ch2, work 6 sc in the 2nd ch from
hook, work a sl st into the first sc you just worked, repeat from * until you have between 6 and
2 ch stitches left to work, sl st to end, tie off

Assembly

Take your dirt and thread the two tails of a leaf strand through the top of it, each end about one stitch apart,
then flip the dirt over to the wrong side and tie the two tails together tightly.

Repeat with each leaf strand, keeping the majority towards the middle of the dirt and spacing out as desired.

Now it’s time to stuff! In order to have a stable base, I recommend a couple of things. One is to cut a circle of
plastic or cardboard to fit in the bottom and keep it flat. Another option is to put weighted beads in the base
to help with stability and weight. I opted for about ½” of beads on the bottom. Fill the rest of the pot loosely
with polyfil or other stuffing.

Sew the dirt into the top of the pot. It should be attached into the 26th row of the pot, or right where the
bottom of your longest spike stitch hits. I used a whipstitch, being careful not to let the stitching show on the
outside of the pot. I also recommend folding over the edge of your pot for ease of sewing, then flipping it
back up when you are done. Weave in your ends and your String of Pearls potted plant is done!
