Lesson Plan

Exploring Colombia's Natural Treasures and Environmental

Responsibility

Objectives:

- To introduce Colombian children to the concept of natural resources and the

importance of caring for the environment.
- To reinforce the use of present perfect tense in English language.

Materials:

- Pictures about Colombia's natural resources (forests, rivers, mountains, etc.).

- Whiteboard and markers.
- Worksheets for practice exercises.

Introduction (15 minutes):

-TT start the lesson by asking students what they know about Colombia's natural
resources. Encourage them to share their thoughts and ideas.
-TT Show pictures or videos of Colombia's diverse natural landscapes, such as
rainforest, mountains, and coast. Discuss the importance of these resources for the
environment and the country's economy.

Vocabulary Building (10 minutes):

- Introduce new vocabulary related to natural resources and environmental care.

Examples include "forest", "river", "wildlife", "pollution", "conservation", etc. Use
visuals and gestures to aid understanding.
Ecosystem: A community of living organisms interacting with each other and their
physical environment.
Biodiversity: The variety of life forms in a given area, including plants, animals, and
microorganisms.
Renewable Resources: Natural resources that can be replenished or regenerated
within a human lifespan, such as sunlight, wind, and water.
Non-Renewable Resources: Natural resources that are finite and cannot be
replaced within a human lifespan, such as fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) and
minerals.
Sustainability: Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of
future generations to meet their own needs.
Greenhouse Effect: The trapping of heat in the Earth's atmosphere by greenhouse
gases, leading to climate change.
Carbon Footprint: The total amount of greenhouse gases emitted directly or
indirectly by an individual, organization, or product.
Deforestation: The clearing of forests for agriculture, urban development, or other
purposes, leading to habitat loss and environmental degradation.
Water Conservation: The preservation, control, and management of water
resources to ensure sustainable use and prevent waste.
Endangered Species: Species that are at risk of extinction due to factors such as
habitat loss, pollution, and climate change.

Group Activity: Environmental Pledge (20 minutes):

Create groups and ask students to come up with a list of actions they can take to
protect the environment in their own community. Encourage creativity and
practicality.
Each group will then present their environmental pledge to the class, using present
perfect tense to describe what they have already done and what they plan to do in
the future.

Conclusion (10 minutes):

- Summarize the key points of the lesson, emphasizing the importance of caring
for the environment and how each person can make a difference.
Encourage students to apply what they have learned by taking action to protect
Colombia's natural treasures.

Assessment:
Evaluate students' participation in group activities, their understanding of the
present perfect tense through their sentences, and their ability to apply the
concepts learned in the writing task.
