Did you know that waiting in line
shows good manners? Marco stands
behind Alex. Marco does not walk out
of line or shout. If Alex stops, Marco
stops and waits behind him.
Being a Good Listener
Listening shows good manners. Being
a good listener means not talking when
others talk.
Today is Show and Tell. It’s Nikki’s
turn to tell what she brought to show.
Alex listens to Nikki. Alex knows that he
will get to talk in a few minutes.

 Marco and Maggie are not using
good manners. They are talking while
Nikki talks. Nikki’s feelings are hurt.
Mrs. Jackson says, “Marco and
Maggie, please use good manners and
listen to Nikki.”
Now Marco and Maggie sit quietly.
Good listeners can learn from the
person who is speaking.

 Keeping Promises
Breaking promises shows bad
manners. Alex promised to play kickball
with Maggie. Alex keeps his promise
because he has good manners.
Helping Others
We use good manners when we help
others. Nikki opens the door for Marco
because she knows that he needs help.
She says, “Here you go, Marco.”
He says, “Thank you, Nikki.”

 Saying You Are Sorry
What should we do when we do
something wrong? Good manners tell us
to say we are sorry.
Maggie has broken Alex’s pencil.
Maggie says, “I’m sorry, Alex. I promise to
take better care of your things next time.”

Working With Others
Maggie and Nikki work together.
Nikki holds the ruler for Maggie. Maggie
listens to Nikki’s ideas. They get along
well because of their good manners.
