WHAT IS HEALTH ?

➢ Definition of health is “freedom from disease”

➢ Its means, if we ae not sick, injured or affected ,
we feel that we are heathy.
➢ WHO (World Health Organization) define “health”
is more comprehensively and holistically not just
the absence of disease.

WHAT FACTORS INFLUENCE CHILDREN’S HEALTH ?

➢ It is a product of continuous interactions between an individual’s

genetic makeup, environmental condition and personal
experiences.
➢ Mothers who fail to maintain a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy
are more likely to give birth to infants who are born prematurely,
have low birth weight or experience a range of special challenges
(McCormick et al., 2011)

1. HEREDITY

➢ Characteristics transmitted from biological parents

to their children.
➢ Sets the limits for growth, development and health
potential.
➢ Influences health can also be useful for assessing a
possible inherited tendency or predisposition, to
certain health problems.

2. ENVIRONMENT

environment plays an equally important role.
➢ Several environmental factors that support and promote healthy outcomes :

• Participating in daily physical and recreational activities.
• Getting 8 and 9 hours of uninterrupted nighttime sleep.

individuals from unnecessary harm.

among children from birth to 14 years in the United States
and Canada and, sadly, many of these instances are
avoidable (CDC, 2012; Safe Kids Canada, 2012).

FACTORS AFFECTING CHILDREN’S SAFETY :

➢ Understanding that pre-schoolers are spontaneous and

exceedingly curious should cause adults to take extra
precautions to prevent children.
➢ Children who have developmental disabilities or sensory disorders
are at increased risk of sustaining unintentional injury and must be
monitored continuously (Cavalari & Romanczyk, 2012).

4. NUTRITION

and their relationship to health and disease.
➢ A wide variety of foods must be consumed in the
recommended amounts to meet the body’s need .
➢ Many family and environmental conditions, including financial
resourse, transportation, geographical lovation, cultural and
religious preferences, convience and nutrion knowledge can
affect the quality of a child’s diet.
