Juliana: To start with our title proposal, we would like to share a quote from Sir

Bill Gates “I believe in innovation and that the way you get innovation is you fund
research and you learn the basic facts.”

Good afternoon Ma’am, I am Juliana Sabina Biongan the leader of today’s group,
with my fellow members, Rafaelah Sherisse Velasco, Anika Rafael Pascual, Ma.
Isabelle Laurezo, Francien Valerie Tan, Therese Suyat, Von Jasper Amante, and
Gene Henri Pitogo.

Francien: For today’s agenda we are to present our proposed research title “The
Extraction of Natural Dye from Purple Yam Dioscorea Alata and Young Coconut
Water Cocos Nucifera L. for coloring Cotton Fabric”

Von: An essential component of supporting environmental conservation efforts

and sustainable practices is the efficient energy utilization of dyeing processes.
Optimizing consumption of energy during the dyeing process helps to improve
the production cycle's overall efficiency while lowering its impact on the
environment. It's significant that this strategy supports the overarching objective
of conserving limited resources, like fresh water, which are typically used in
energy-intensive dyeing processes.

Additionally, the use of non-toxic natural dyes in these procedures

improves worker and customer safety. Traditional synthetic dyes frequently
contain dangerous chemicals that are risky for your health. Natural dyes, on the
other hand, are inherently non-toxic because they come from renewable
resources like plants and minerals. As a result, they guarantee a safer work
environment and finished products.

Therese: Being biodegradable, young coconut water and purple yam dye aligns
seamlessly with eco-friendly practices, and its deeper cultural significance,
especially in the Philippines, it adds meaning to the textiles industry. Additionally,
its lower environmental impact compared to synthetic dyes, health benefits, and
artistic flexibility with unique shades of color make it a valuable asset for
sustainable and culturally rich textile production.

Rafaelah: The main objective of this study aims to test if extraction of Purple Yam
Dioscroea Alata and Young Coconut Water Cocos Nucifera L. can be made into
natural dye for coloring cotton fabric.

Specifically the study will,

Determine the intensity level of different concentration levels of Purple Yam
Dioscroea Alata and Young Coconut Water Cocos Nucifera L. extract and;
Determine the result color of the extraction of Purple Yam Dioscroea Alata and
Young Coconut Water Cocos Nucifera L.

Isabelle: Related Literature presents the background information on the issues to

be considered in the present research proposal work and to focus on the
significance of the current study. We present literature and studies that have
relevance to the present investigation.

- Paulina Samantha's 2020 article titled "A Review on Application of Natural Dyes
in Textiles" delves into the resurgence of natural dye usage in textile industries.
The article discusses the chemistry and characterization of natural dyes,
emphasizing their importance in sustainable textile production. Furthermore, it
highlights the standardization and simplification of henna dye extraction and
application, driven by environmental concerns and a growing focus on
sustainability in textile coloration…

Anika: In their 2013 article, Geetha B and V. Judia Harriet Sumathy explores the
evolving significance of natural dyes, which have become vital resources in fields
such as textiles and medicine. Traditional dyeing methods underline the
importance of indigenous knowledge for sustainable development. Natural dyers
are now keen on replicating the properties of synthetic dyes, aiming to create
eco-friendly textiles with unique and soothing shades while utilizing standardized
recipes and eco-friendly techniques for consistent results.

Gene: The article by Kumar titled "To study natural herbal dyes on cotton fabric
to improve the colour fastness and absorbency performance" discusses a shift in
the textile industry from synthetic dyes to natural ones due to global
environmental concerns. This transition aims to create a more eco-friendly and
health-conscious dyeing process, reducing issues associated with synthetic dye
waste and allergens. As a result, commercial dyers and textile exporters are
exploring natural dyes to target specialized markets and prioritize sustainability.

In the study, various herbal dyes like turmeric, aloe vera, neem, beetroot,
pomegranate, and onion were applied to cotton fabrics. The primary goal is to
promote the use of natural dyes in textiles to address health issues like skin
allergies.
Juliana: The materials to be used in conducting our research are purple yam,
young coconut water, cotton cloth, gas stove, and kalan.

Von: Our utmost delight that we have presented to you Ma'am our proposed
research title, the researchers are now fully ready to entertain questions.
