Oregano leaves, a common herb with a distinct smell and intense green color,
have potential as a natural dye for fabric. They contain natural pigments like
anthocyanins and flavonoids, which can be extracted and used to dye fabric.
This study aims to investigate the color fastness, durability, longevity, and
properties of oregano leaves in fabric dyeing, as well as their environmental
impact. The objective is to optimize the extraction process to achieve durability,
longevity, and color fastness while ensuring a sustainable and environmentally
friendly process.
Research Questions
This study aims to find out if the oregano leaves can be extracted to create a liquid green
dye and the environmental impact of using it. Specifically, the research answers the
following questions:
1. What are the properties of oregano leaves that are suitable in making a natural fabric
dye?
2. How does the dyeing process with oregano leaves compare to traditional synthetic
dyes on silk in terms of:
a. colorfastness
b. durability
c. longevity
3. What is the degree of acceptance of the respondents regarding the use of Oregano-
Alternative Fabric Dye?
4. What are the environmental impacts of using oregano leaves as sustainable herbal
fabric dye?
