At the time, all I could think about was, The sky looks so nice, I want to ride on a cloud, or I wonder
how insects live; what beautiful colors they have. I kept observing the strange colors of shells and butter-
flies and focusing on the balance of strange patterns, drawing them in my free-form book and creating
jade boxes.
At that time, the standard dream for boys was to be an athlete or a hero. Bunta, however, had no such as-
pirations, and if he had to pick, he wanted to be a zookeeper or an insect book creator.

I think it is a very happy thing that Japan has four seasons, because the plants in the
landscape gradually change color and we can observe many colors in our daily lives, al-
lowing the existence of various words to capture these ambiguous changes. I think the
beauty that nature shows us one after another creates a great environment for developing
the senses and imagination. I paint a lot of nature, plants and animals because I think
the earth is really beautiful, life is very mysterious, and I want to cherish the harmony of
nature forever.

Bunta is currently based in Tateyama (Chiba Prefecture),
where the sea is beautiful. After spending a period of time in
the heart of Tokyo, where new things were being born one
after another, he came to Tateyama in search of a quiet place
with nature. The sea in Tateyama is blue and beautiful, much
like that of the Seto Inland Sea where Bunta spent his child-
hood.

Perhaps it was his pure love for nature that attracted him to
continue painting, and in 2011 Bunta became a board mem-
ber of the Japanese branch of the marine nature conservation
organization Sailors for the Sea.
