3. When the embankment slope is above 8.0 m high, the stepped slope shall be made, with the slope gradient 1:1.5
within 8.0 m below the subgrade margin. For the slope below 8.0 m high, slope gradient 1:1.75 is employed, with a
2.0 m wide platform provided at the grade change point.
4. For soil fill or mixed soil-rock fill embankment, when the slope is less than 3.0 m high, protection will be done with
grass sodding; When the slope is above 3.0 m but below 20.0 m high, protection will be done with arch skeleton;
When the slope is above 20 m high, a stable slope type shall be determined through analysis and calculation.

2. The gradient of the excavation slope is determined based on the following principles: Side ditch
(1) For the slope of earth, the Quaternary eluvial layer or the fully weathered rock, the gradient is usually
1:1.0 to 1:1.25;
(2) For the slope of the strongly weathered rock, the gradient is usually 1:0.5 to 1:0.75;
(3) For the slope of the moderately weathered ~ slightly weathered rock, the gradient is 1:0.3 to 1:0.5;
(4) For the slope of the soft rock, such as sandstone or shale, a more gentle gradient is taken.
3. Principles for protection of excavation slopes:
(1) The protection type (skeleton, grass sodding) in one section of the slope shall be simple as far as
possible, and selected based on the slope gradient;
(2) When the slope gradient is 1:1, for the earth and the fully weathered rock, when the slope height is less
than 3 m, protection is done with grass sodding; When the slope height is above 3 m (or more than two
stages), protection is done with the window-type facing wall or arch skeleton.
(3) When the slope gradient is 1:0.75, protection is done with the arch skeleton;
(4) When the slope is less than two stages and the gradient of the lower stage is 1:0.5, no protection is
done or active protection is done pointedly based on the conditions of the slope.
(5) For the high slope (rock slope >30 m, or earth slope >20 m), a comprehensive slope protection
scheme shall be made based on the slope stability calculation.

3. For the low-fill subgrade with embankment height H less than 1.25m, over-cut to H

NOTE
1. The geogrid is applicable to the fill slope of which the gradient is above 1:5. B represents the

subgrade width. The layers and spacing shall be determined based on the slope stability calculation.

2. The soil surface to be laid with geosynthetics shall be even and flat, free of any sharp and hard

projections such as gravel or block stone. For the embankment filler within 8 cm to the geosynthetics,

the maximum grain size shall be no more than 6 cm.

3. When the geogrid is laid, it shall be tensioned as far as possible, if necessary, fix the geogrid in the

fill soil surface with nails.

4. The geogrid is laid to the vicinity of the staggering line of the steps horizontally. The same degree

of compaction and requirements for subgrade soil fill apply.

1. All the dimensions in this drawing are expressed in centimeter. B represents the subgrade
width. The treatment width shall be L=5 to 10 m based on the actual width of the fill zone.
2. This is a design schematic for treatment at the junction of the half-fill half-cut subgrade. This

drawing is applicable to the half-fill half-cut subgrade having steep natural transverse gradient
if the excavation zone is composed of soil. When the distance from the road trough bottom to
outer margin of the fill earth shoulder is more than B/2, treatment shall be done according to

NOTE
1. All the dimensions in this drawing are expressed in centimeter.

2. The shoulder wall is applicable to the half-fill half-cut section of small fill quantity at the steep slope area. When it is

hard to fill because the hillside stretches far, the filler used behind the shoulder wall shall be hard stone material, and

the foundation shall be set on the rock or hard coarse soil; Embedded depth of the foundation below the frost line is

equal to or bigger than 0.25 m but no more than 1 m.

3. M25 cast-in-place concrete was used at the top 50 cm of the wall; and Mortar rubble was used at the bottom

, pointed with M10 cement mortar, with the comprehensive strength of the stone material no less than 30 MPa.

4. On the wall body, a 2 cm wide settlement joint is provided at the interval of 10 to 15 m, filled with asphalt-soaked with

the depth no less than 15 cm by inserting from three sides such as inner, outer and top.

5. For B/2+W, B represents the width of a typical subgrade, and W represents the widening value of the subgrade.

2. This drawing is applicable to the sections for which the slope gradient is limited outside the subgrade ;

3. The wall body is made of M20 rubble concrete, with the compressive strength of the stone material no less than 30 MPa, and the wall top is made of

M30 cast-in-situ concrete.

4. On the wall body, a 2 cm wide settlement joint is provided at the interval of 10 to 15 m, filled with asphalt-soaked with the depth no less than 15 cm by

inserting from three sides such as inner, outer and top;

5. Drain holes are provided along the wall at the interval of 2 to 3 m which are buried with a Ø10 cm PVC pipe in advance. The lowest row of the holes

shall be 30 cm higher than the ground. And an inverted filter is provided after the holes.

6. The 30 cm thick gravel inverted filter is provided on the wall back. Below the inverted filter, one layer of 50 cm wide impermeable geotextile is laid

along the alignment in the whole length.

7. For backfilling at the retaining wall back, filling materials with good permeability and the inner friction angle no less than 38° shall be used, and the

filling layer by layer can be done only after the strength of the masonry reaches 70%;

8. During construction, attention shall be paid to linking with the guard fence, and location of the prepared guard fence foundation;

9. During construction, the wall height or length may be adjusted properly when the topographical or geological conditions change.

10. For B/2+W, B represents the width of a typical subgrade, and W represents the widening value of the subgrade.

11.The bottom surface of the retaining wall foundation should be set at a place not less than 1.5m below the natural stable bearing layer. The base stress

of the retaining wall should meet the design requirements. If some sections cannot meet the design requirements, the foundation can be tamped or

expanded, and the bearing capacity test can be carried out to ensure the strength of the foundation.

12. When the height of retaining wall H≥8m, two layers of 2m wide Ø16 steel mesh shall be set at the weighing platform, which shall be laid along the

overall length of the weighing platform, and the reinforcing bars shall be disconnected at the deformation joint with a bi-directional spacing of 20cm.

2. The surface of the concrete transition slab must be roughened, with the slot depth of 1.5 cm, so as to reinforce the asphalt face and concrete transition slab.
Curb SHY 3. The tie rods shall be provided in the middle of slab and adjusted properly when interference takes place between the tie rods for the transverse joints.
4. In the drawing, except that the quantity of the approach slabs is included in that of the bridges, other works, including the quantity of the
transition slabs, and that of the longitudinal and transverse tie rods, etc., is included in that of the pavement works.
5. In this drawing, an asphalt coating (0.1 mm thick) is applied within 100 mm to the center of the tie rod.
6. Each tie rod must be positioned correctly by setting parallel to the concrete surface, driveway axis or normal line, with derivation to the horizontal face, vertical

2. The sleeper slab is made of cast-in-situ M30 concrete, roughened transversally on the surface, and sprayed with bonding layer asphalt.

3. Two layers of glass fiber anti-cracking net, which are 2 m wide each and provided respectively under the upper and lower surfacing layers.

4. Technical requirements for the glass fiber geogrid: Both of its meridional and latitudinal tensile strength shall be

no less than 60 kN/m each, with elongation rate less than 3%, gel content 20% to 40%, temperature resistance 100

to 280 ℃, and breadth 1.5 to 4 m, and elastic modulus 760 GPa, grid size 12 mm x 12 mm and weight per unit area 450 g / m2.
