08:00 Royal Castle

Visit Duration: 1 hour, 30 mins
Beginning as a mere tower and several wooden buildings, the Royal Castle has existed in Warsaw since the
14th century. It has been the residence of kings, presidents, and members of parliament. The castle that
exists today was built mostly in the 16th century by King Sigismund III, and underwent several renovations
under subsequent kings. During World War II, an enormous portion of the castle was completely destroyed
but has since been replicated. Visitors can view certain rooms in the castle facilitated by the Castle Museum.
The castle tour begins with the kings’ chambers. Opulent furnishings adorn the apartments and paintings of
famous Polish moments, as well as maps cover the brightly painted walls. Further on is the small yet
impressive Throne Room. Decorated in regal red and gold, the Throne Room contains hundreds of fragments
of the original paneling and stucco work from before its destruction. From there you will be taken to the
Houses of Parliament, and then the Great Assembly Hall, which has been restored to its 18th century decor,
complete with golden columns, gilded stucco, and crystal chandeliers. “The Disentanglement of Chaos” by

0.2 KM, 3 minutes walking from Royal Castle
Take a trip back in time with a stroll through Warsaw’s Old Town Square. The square was built with the
founding of the city, in the 13th century. Although mostly destroyed during Warsaw Uprising of 1944, the
square has been rebuilt in its original architectural styles including Renaissance, Gothic, Baroque, and
neoclassical. Today it serves the public as a testament to Warsaw's rich history, and is filled with cafes,
shops, street vendors, and galleries.
Appreciate the 19th century water pumps, and colorful burgher houses, once lived in by the bourgeois of
Warsaw, that give a glimpse into the history of the square and its people. Surrounding the square you will find
dozens of souvenir and boutique shops as well as some of Warsaw’s top restaurants.

poet. The northern side houses the award winning Museum of Warsaw, which tells the story of Warsaw and Address: rynek Starego Miasta, 00-001

11:05 St. John's Archcathedral

Visit Duration: 1 hour
0.1 KM, 2 minutes walking from Old Town Square
Since its construction in the 14th century, St John’s Archcathedral has been a site of paramount historical
significance. Many royal coronations, as well as burials have taken place here throughout the centuries. A
visit to this historical church engages visitors with Warsaw’s religious past and present.
The enormous cathedral is a landmark in the narrow and winding streets of Old Town. Although having been
destroyed during WWII, the cathedral has since been reconstructed to its full glory. Architects chose to
recreate the church’s earlier Gothic style architecture, as opposed to the Baroque style which had existed
before its destruction. Begin your experience here by appreciating the cathedral’s towering brick facade. On
the outer wall facing Kanonia Street is a piece of the tank that was sent to destroy church with explosives

museum also hosts concerts and films.
