Teaching Content Numbers and
Dates & Wednesday at 3:00 PM Area Number Sense
Time Quarter 1
Content Standard Demonstrates understanding of addition of whole numbers.
Performance Can apply addition of whole numbers in mathematical problems and
Standard real-life situations.
Adds mentally 2- to 3- digit numbers with multiples of hundreds using
Competency
appropriate strategies. (M3NS-Ie-28.8)
I. Learning Objective
At the end of the 50-minute lesson, the students should be able to:

a. define what is addition and its parts;

b. add mentally 2- to 3- digit numbers with multiples of hundreds using appropriate

strategies.

c. demonstrate understanding of mental math addition through games.

II. Subject Matter
A. Topic Addition with 2-3 digits

C. Material Cartolina, cut out shapes, popsicle sticks.

III. Model Instruction Application
A. Preliminary 1. Greetings
Activities The teacher will greet the pupils and they will also greet back.
(3 minutes)
2. Classroom Management
The teacher will present the classroom rules and procedures. Then,
the pupils will read each rule.

CLASSROOM RULES:
• Listen attentively to the teacher when she speaks.
• Ask for help when you need it.
• Participate in the discussion.
-Those who participate and wins in the games will be given a
stamp on his/her reward card
B. Activity The students will play a game called “BINGO”.
(8 minutes) The teacher will discuss the mechanics or present the game first
before the students will do the game. Then, the pupils will follow
along.
Mechanics:
How to Play: Explain to the class that initially they will be playing
against you, then against each other. The aim of the game is to get to
100 without going over!

Each team rolls a dice (or two). They then decide if they are going to
use the total as a place value of tens or ones/units. For example, if
they roll a 6 they can choose to add 6 to their total or 60. Each team
needs to then record their running total on a sheet of paper and color
the different sub totals on their hundreds board.

The teacher will also ask some questions about the game.
• What is the title of the game?
• What did you notice in the game?

After the game, the students will share their experience while doing
the game. The said activity will be facilitated by the guide teachers.

C. Discussion Pupils will talk about their experiences in the activity that they have
(3 minutes) done. Teacher may ask questions that will strengthen the curiosity of
the pupil regarding to the introduced topic.
• Did you enjoy the activity?
• What did you notice in the way you solve the addition?

What do you think is our topic for today?

Mark and his friends enjoy playing in the yard, there are three apple
trees in the yard where they are playing the first tree has 3 mangoes and the
second tree has 10 apples and the last tree has 4 guava. They play and ate
fruits every day.
Ask:
Who are playing in the yard?

What fruits are there in the yard?

How many mangoes, apples, and guava are in the yard?

D. Input After the discussion and introducing the topic the students will practice addition
(15 minutes) using the addition table shown. This will showcase and assess the students level of
proficiency in adding numbers from 1 to 10.

After practicing the addition table, the teacher will show realias
such as popsicle sticks, pencils, etc. The teacher will ask the
pupils to add the objects to practice their mental addition skills.
E. Deepening In this section, the teacher will show a chart or table and the
(7 minutes) students will solve it mentally in front using cutout shapes they will
add or determine how many objects are there in each number and
they will write the sum in the given box or space for answers.

F. Activity For the last activity, the students will play “Group Yourselves”. The
(8 minutes) pupils will actively participate and play with their classmates this game
will enhance and practice their mental math skills.

Instructions: The pupils or class will stand up and when the teacher
says “GROUP YOURSELVES INTO” the teacher will say a number
and the pupils will complete their members or add their classmates to
their circle.

G. Synthesis
(7 minutes) The teacher will ask pupils a series of questions about the topic they
have tackled to ensure that the pupils really understand the lesson.
Then, the pupils will answer.

• What did we tackle today?

• What is addiction?

Using Popsicle sticks the pupils will count 20 pieces of popsicle sticks
to assess if they can already perform addition using variety of
materials.
