PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet


Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

The name of the organization I want to study for the remainder of this course is
Doehrman Company Inc. Founded in 1978, Doehrman Company has become the leading
automotive service equipment dealer in the Southwestern United States. Started by three
brothers and their father, taking care of their customers has been their main focus from
the beginning. Doehrman’s customer base includes everything from commercial vehicle
dealerships and government maintenance facilities, all the way down to small scale
projects like personal home garages. In 2021, Doehrman Company was acquired by
Western Pump Inc out of Southern California, with hopes to expand their suite of
services all across the Western United States.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

My role in Doehrman Company currently is an installer. I began working there in


June of 2022, coming from Western Pump where I worked in the parts department. I
seized this opportunity the moment it was presented to me because I knew I wanted to
move out of California and I have a passion for cars, and working here meant I could be
surrounded by the automotive industry. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in
organizational leadership: project management I will have earned a role in a project
manager position. I plan to use the skills I have learned in the field and the knowledge
from my degree to help push Doehrman Company to the next level and withhold their
reputation in the Arizona valley.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

In question 1, I purposefully included Western Pump’s acquisition of Doehrman
Company in 2021. While both companies have been around for nearly four decades,
Western Pump was quick to adapt to the rapidly changing technology that could be used
to store and document things like job numbers, work orders, enterprise knowledge
platform’s, quotes, and so much more while Doerhman Company was still doing things
the old-fashioned way with handshakes and pen & paper agreements. This worked fine
for them for many years, but this was unprofessional in the eyes of Wetsern Pump.
Wetsern Pump uses a construction software called Jonas where every little detail is
accounted for. Doehrman’s old-timer’s gave a lot of pushback when they were presented
with this new software they had to learn to use, some even threatening to quit. Western
Pump has been sending employees from San Diego since the acquisition in 2021 to help
train the Doehrman employees on how to use Jonas, but so many of the employees
continue to push back and resort to their old pen & paper way of doing things. After three
years of trying to educate and help the old-time employees of Doehrman, only about half
of the staff have adopted Jonas and Western Pump is strongly considering replacing
many of the employees there.
