Setting out The Foundation’s Layout

Introduction:
The process of lining out the foundation of the guard house was a task that required precision and
teamwork. We were divided into four groups of four individuals each, dressed in our overalls, we began
the task at hand.

Group Formation and Task Allocation:

We were put into groups of four, each group was assigned to one side of the foundation. This division of
labor was efficient and ensured that each group could focus on their task without distraction.

Our Task:
Our group was assigned to the third side of the foundation. Understanding the importance of our role in
the project, we pursued the task with steadfast determination . Each measurement taken, each line we
drew, was done with precision, knowing that any mistake could affect the entire structure.

Challenges Encountered:
Despite our careful planning and execution, setbacks were faced due to incorrect measurements by the
first and second teams. These mistakes, while causing frustration, were a reminder of the importance of
the accuracy needed in our work. They were learning opportunities, teaching us to double-check our work
and communicate effectively with other teams.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, the process of lining out the foundation of the guard house was an important learning
experience. It taught us the importance of teamwork, precision, and effective communication. Despite the
setbacks, we were able to complete the task.
Tools and Equipment Used:

Overall Ball Peen Hammer

4” Nails 2x4x14 Planks

Equipment-Continued:
Cap Helmet
Spirit Level Measuring Tape

Pencil Nylon Mason String

 Team member Anthony Neil, using a spirit level checks if our batter board is level.
Team member Temani Smith requesting the string line.
Temani then ran the string line over the batter board.
Myself (right) holding the string line while Temani(left) embeds the peg into the ground.
Team members Leondre Lawes (top left) and Anthony checking the length of our batter board as there
seemed to be a miscalculation as the batter board and the string line when assembled for nailing show a
variation from their linearity with respect to each other.
Anthony checking if the entire assembly is level seeking to correct our error.
Anthony checking the levelness of the string line after the disassembly of our setup.
The source of error was determined to be that the previous team (team #2)’s batter board was not squared
with the first teams’ therefore ours was not accurately squared also. Our batter board was then accurately
squared with the previous teams', we then properly squared it and began reconstructing our assembly.

Temani and I replant the peg after Anthony signals that the assembly is properly squared and levelled.
We reassemble our side which is now properly squared and levelled.
After measurements were taken and the center of the batter board determined, Leondre then plants the
third peg.
After completing our side, we await the fourth team to start.
