DAILY JOURNAL
It was the official start our work immersion. As a STEM student, we were
assigned to work in the medical field while the others worked in the engineering
office.
On our first day of work immersion, we were asked to go to the Local Government
Unit (LGU) for our orientation. We listened as Sir Ezra Flores Vidad, head of HR
department oriented us of our behavior. After the orientation, we were instructed to
go to our respective department. Sir Ezra instructed us to have our name tags as per
request of Dr. Macario. At exactly 1 in the afternoon, Dr. Macario Bautista, the head
of the instituition (RHU), asked us to get chairs for the orientation. After orientation,
Ma’am Angela and ma’am Emely grouped us into five. They assigned which field we
will be designated and sent us home so that we can start tomorrow.

On the third day, Claire and I were the only two immersionists at the OPD.
We then helped ate Jennifer to look for the missing family envelope numbers in the
cabinet. Later on, ma’am Angela taught us how to do a Blood Pressure (BP) and
what is it used for. After that, we moved the tables, dishes and food to the third floor.
In the afternoon Sir Sherwin asked me to observe how to put “Suero” in the patient
which I find amazing. Ma’am Jennifer then told me to write the names of the patient
in the envelope and which barangay he/she is. On the latter part of the day, Claire
and I continued looking for family envelope numbers in the general entry.

On our fourth day, we were assigned in the field. We were divided into two
groups, 4 members in 1 group. Our first destination in the morning were in
Nagtupacan and Cabaggan. We went first to Nagtupacan, where we had a house to
house visit of the mothers who were about to give birth. Ma’am Avinia told me to
check the Blood Pressure of the mothers and their husbands. After that we gave
toothbrushes to the children and taught them on how to brush their teeth properly.
Together with Ma’am Jacky, we travelled to Barangay Gattu in the afternoon to
lecture and inject anti- pheumonia.

We were assigned in the Field along with the same group. As I was part of
the second group, my groupmates and I went in the morning to Barangay Sta. Cruz
to give anti-pheumonia vaccine to the citizen. Ma’am Maryl Criztel Catenza then
lectured us while waiting for the babies about the procedure and the purpose of the
vaccine itself. After that we went to the house of a pregnant mother from lumittung for
postpartum. In the afternoon, we went to the laboratory to see a real blood under a
microscope.

It was our sixth day and we were assigned in the Birthing area. In the
morning, they told us to make cotton balls and assisted patients. In the afternoon, we
accompanied ma’am Jeniffer together with the field team to the house of a pregnant
mother in Brgy. Nagattatan to inject tetanus toxoid. It was discussed to us that it is
possible when she is 4 months pregnant for the second time that three tetanus
toxoids will be injected into her. After that we went to their Barangay hall to inject the
babies with anti-polio vaccine and eventually went to Barangay Bidduang to give oral
polio vaccine to babies.

us to fold a paper tape as cover of babies’ wounds. In the afternoon we went to the
laboratory to do a blood test and to find out what our blood type is.

We were assigned in the OPD again. The usual routine went by as we looked
for family envelopes of people who will undergo check-up and weighed the children
and the elderly. In the afternoon we observed a patient as nurses sew his wound.
After a while of searching for family envelopes and assisting patients, Doctor
Melvin De Jesus gathered our attention and lectured us about the course that we
want to pursue. He discussed what type of course/work Nursing, Med tech,
Pharmacy are and what to expect from these courses. He then discussed the 2 types
of dialysis which are, Acute (that is short duration such as broken bone (sprains,
strains) asthma attack)
and Chronic condition (long developing syndrome such as osteoporosis or asthma).
In the afternoon, students of David M. Puzon Memorial National High School had a
medical appointment. We assisted and asked them of their family envelope numbers
one by one. After that, we gave their family envelope numbers to the nurses who are
in duty. Later on, Ma’am Jenelina Ifurung assisted the ladies of David Puzon to do
the PT (Pregnancy Test) observation.
