INTRODUCTION
In recent years, the issue of peer abuse within educational settings has gained increasing
attention due to its detrimental effects on the overall well-being and academic performance of
students (Smith, 2018; Johnson et al., 2020). The transition to senior high school, particularly
Grade 12, is a critical phase in an adolescent's life, marked by unique social and emotional
challenges (Anderson & Brown, 2019). During this phase, students are forming their
identities, navigating complex social dynamics, and preparing for adulthood (Adams, 2017).
Understanding the extent to which students are aware of and experience peer abuse during
this stage is crucial for developing effective intervention strategies to promote a safer and
more conducive learning environment (Garcia & Hernandez, 2021).
Calinan National High School, situated in Calinan, Davao City, is a significant educational
institution in the region (Calinan National High School Annual Report, 2022). It plays a
pivotal role in shaping the futures of its students by providing education, fostering personal
development, and preparing them for the challenges of adulthood (Smith & Davis, 2019). As
such, understanding the dynamics of peer abuse within this school is vital to ensuring the
overall well-being and success of its student body (Gonzalez, 2020).
Peer abuse encompasses a range of harmful behaviors, including physical aggression, verbal
abuse, relational aggression, and cyberbullying, perpetuated by peers within the school
environment (Oliver & Thompson, 2018; Wang et al., 2019). These behaviors can have
profound and lasting impacts on the victims, affecting their mental health, self-esteem,
academic engagement, and overall quality of life (Jones & Smith, 2017). It is imperative to
understand the awareness levels of Grade 12 students regarding peer abuse to effectively
address this pressing concern (Gomez & Martinez, 2020).
Grade 12 students stand at the threshold of adulthood, where they are preparing for higher
education, careers, and societal responsibilities (Brown & Miller, 2021). The experiences and
challenges they face during this academic year significantly shape their transition into
adulthood (Robinson et al., 2018). The prevalence and impact of peer abuse during this phase
can affect not only their immediate well-being but also their long-term prospects (Turner &
Harris, 2016).
This study aims to investigate the level of awareness of peer abuse among Grade 12 students
at Calinan National High School. The focus is on understanding the prevalence, severity, and
various forms of peer abuse experienced within the school environment (Davis & Lee, 2021).
Additionally, the research seeks to identify potential gaps in awareness and knowledge
among the students, providing a foundation for targeted interventions to enhance their
understanding of peer abuse (Smith et al., 2022).
Understanding the knowledge and perceptions of Grade 12 students regarding peer abuse is
pivotal for school administrators, teachers, parents, and policymakers (Johnson & Brown,
2019). Insights from this research will guide the implementation of preventive measures, the
development of peer support programs, the integration of counseling initiatives, and the
creation of educational campaigns within the school community (Taylor & Clark, 2020).
These interventions will collectively contribute to reducing peer abuse and fostering a safe,
inclusive, and supportive educational environment (Garcia et al., 2022).
In conclusion, this study endeavors to shed light on the pressing issue of peer abuse among
Grade 12 students, providing critical insights that will inform evidence-based policies and
interventions (Anderson et al., 2021). By fostering a culture of empathy, respect, and
tolerance within the school, the study aims to nurture personal growth and academic success
among the Grade 12 students at Calinan National High School (Adams & Martinez, 2023).

Chapter 2
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
In this chapter, the methodology of the study is explained. This includes details
on the research design, research locale, participants, sampling process, methods for
collecting data, analysis of data, and ethical considerations.
Research Design
This qualitative research used phenomenological research design since it aimed
to explore the factors that influence student disengagement in learning and their
implications for educational practice and policy of Calinan national high school.
Phenomenology according to Connelly (2010) began as a philosophical movement
focusing on the nature of experience from the perspective of the person experiencing it.
In this study, shares different point of view of the respondent experiences on how they
lose interest learning.
Research Participants
This study chose Calinan National High School grade 11 students as the major sampling
population since the research will focus on the diverse perspectives on each student's
unmotivated learning and its repercussions. As well as how they lose interest affect their
learnings.
Sampling Method
This study focused on the grade 11 students of Calinan National School. This
particular study can be beneficial to each of the six interviewees. All six participants
have displayed some signs of disengagement towards academic situations. They were
selected for convenience's sake. Comfort testing is a non-likelihood examining technique
where units are chosen for consideration in the example since they are the most
straightforward for the specialist to get to. This can be because of geological proximity,
accessibility at a given time, or eagerness to take part in the examination. These six
chosen respondents were all partaking in the meeting; they were all given an inquiry
that was readily responded to by the respondents. Because of their accessibility within
the campus and their willingness and readiness to share a few critical and important
information points for this specific ponder, the gathering of the necessary data and
information would be straightforward.

Data Analysis

all of the themes.
6. Lastly, the researcher condensed and compressed the lengthy descriptions of the
phenomenon into a precise and firm statement that conveys the most important
information.
Ethical Considerations
To uphold the main concept of the study while also respecting the respondents'
rights, ethical measures have been developed as a guide for researchers to conduct a fair
and responsible investigation. Therefore, consistency across these aspects is being taken
into account to guarantee that appropriate research protocols have been followed
during the study. The following are the specific factors being considered:
Risk, Benefit, and Safety. The participants in the study were given reassurance that
their involvement in the research posed no danger or risk. The collected data was stored
securely and only accessible to the researchers. Additionally, the research was
conducted solely for academic purposes and therefore did not put the participants'
safety at risk. Throughout the research process, the researchers took precautions to
ensure compliance with health protocols and implement protective measures.
Adequacy of Facilities. The researchers made sure that all necessary materials,
including permission letters and interview question guides, were created to ensure a
seamless process for collecting data. Prior to distribution, the interview questions were
reviewed and approved by professionals in the relevant field to ensure their validity.
Community Involvement. The researchers took measures to avoid violating any local
traditions or cultures during their study. They were careful when preparing the
interview questions to prevent any biases against race, religion, or culture. The
researchers also gave proper recognition to the participants who took part in the
research project. They informed the principal or any other authoritative personnel at
