Chapter 1

The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

Academic integrity is a fundamental principle in the educational process,

emphasizing honesty, fairness, and ethical behavior in academic pursuits. It various

aspects such as acknowledging sources, avoiding plagiarism, and upholding standards

of originality and honesty in academic work. In the Grade 10 students at LPNHS Almanza,

maintaining academic integrity is crucial for a positive learning environment and ensuring

equitable assessment practices.

According to Darwin A. Ignacio (2019) those who contribute to why students often

cheat are the ones who worries the most about their children's academic performance,

the parents. He stated that the eagerness of parents for their children to become

successful resorts the students to cheat. It is also the pressure from parents as pupils

prepare to apply to a good school. Students aren't able to be honest in their academic

performance because of their desire to pass that level or subject. "Parents should

emphasize the importance of academic honesty."

Conceptual Framework

A research conducted by the National Association of Secondary School Principals

(NASSP, 2022) students must be clear and aware of the policies around an institution’s

commitment to academic integrity to prevent instances of plagiarism, contract cheating,

collusion, and other forms of academic dishonesty. It is based on research that students

must nurture academic integrity in school and it is important to keep that honesty and

bring it into your workplace.

According to a report by ACT (2023) roughly half of high school students uses

popular AI tools. Under half of students (46%) appear to be grades 10 to 12, said that

they used tools like ChatGPT, Dall-E 2, Bing Chat, and others on a combination of school

and non-school assignments at the time of the survey. The report also states that the

students with higher scores were more likely to use AI tools than those with lower scores.

The researchers were able to determine the three variables in this study. It is within

these theories that the researchers conceptualized the Input (1), Process (P), and Output

(O) for a better understanding on the study.

The paradigm of the study is illustrated in figure 1.
