TYPES OF SPEECHES

AND SPEECH STYLES

GROUP 1
BASIC TYPES OF SPEECHES
The four basic types of speeches are:
to inform,
to instruct,
to entertain,
and to persuade.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF TO INFORM?

The purpose of communicating to inform is to help your audience understand
something.
WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF TO INFORM?
Why is informing important? Informing ensures that people are given the right messages
at the right time. There is often a legal duty to tell people about what we do and what
services we offer. It is important to get it right.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF INSTRUCTING?

Instructing is a highly regarded skill in the workforce because it speaks to a
candidate's ability to clearly convey information, possess expert-level literacy on
a specific topic, and help others learn.

WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF TO INSTRUCT?

advice. the judge instructed the jury.

WHAT IS THE DEFINITION AND IMPORTANCE OF ENTERTAINMENT

SPEECH?
People are drawn to the things they relate to emotionally. The quickest
and most effective way to establish a connection with a new customer is to
entertain them. Find creative ways to stimulate your audiences' brains in a
way that attaches your brand to an emotion.

WHAT IS THE DEFINITION AND IMPORTANCE OF PERSUADING?

to make someone do or believe something by giving them a good
reason to do it or by talking to that person and making them believe it:
If she doesn't want to go, nothing you can say will persuade her.
INFORMATION CAMPAIGN

The campaigns are used to raise

awareness of important health issues and
stimulate groups
or individuals to seek information and
services.
Through any increase in knowledge, people
can
over time change attitudes and longer term,
particularly when other intervention
programmes
are used, change their behaviour.
WHY DID WE INCLUDE INFORMATION
CAMPAIGN?

Because, information campaign also includes speeches or public speaking, just like for
an instance when we talk in public about raising awareness that is also an example of
speaking or speeching. Giving them the information that they needed, and the necessary
things they should do, and the things that they should avoid. In order to get the attention
or to convince our audience, we speakers must be persuasive on speeching.

TYPES OF SPEECH
ACCORDING TO
PURPOSE
INFORMATIVE SPEECH

Informative speaking generally centers on talking about people,

events, processes, places, or things. Informing an audience about
one of these subjects without being persuasive is often a difficult task to
complete.

WHAT ARE THE FOUR TYPES OF INFORMATIVE SPEECH?

This section discusses the four primary types of informative speeches.
These include definitional speeches, descriptive speeches,
explanatory speeches, and demonstration speeches.
INFORMATIVE SPEECH

WHAT IS INFORMATIVE SPEECH

AND EXAMPLE?
A lecture given by a teacher in a
high school or college class is an
example of an informative speech. A
manager in a retail store giving a
presentation to her staff about how to
explain a new product line to
customers would also be an example
of an informative speech.
ENTERTAINMENT SPEECH
The mere purpose of this speech is to give pleasure and amusement to the audience
through comic or humorous experiences. Telling jokes and narrating funny or scary
experiences can be used in this speech.
Entertaining speeches are speeches designed to captivate an audience's
attention and regale or amuse them while delivering a clear message.

WHAT IS THE BEST TOPIC FOR ENTERTAINMENT SPEECH?

Funny facts of life are popular topics for an entertainment speech. Golfing at night
or in the snow. Lawyers and the truth. Creative marriage proposals.
PERSUASIVE SPEECH
It aims to convince or influence the audience to change the perspective and look at things
the way the speaker presents the idea or concept. Public forum debate and sales
presentation are few of it’s examples.

Persuasive speaking seeks to influence the beliefs, attitudes, values, or behaviors

of audience members. In order to persuade, a speaker has to construct arguments that
appeal to audience members. Arguments form around three components: claim,
evidence, and warrant.

The persuasive purpose is used to convince, or persuade, the reader that the
opinion, or assertion, or claim, of the writer is correct or valid. Persuasion is more
selfish than argument (debate). Argument attempts to arrive at a logical solution to an
issue.
PERSUASIVE SPEECH
A persuasive speech is a specific type of
speech in which the speaker has a goal of
convincing the audience to accept his or
her point of view. The speech is arranged
in such a way as to hopefully cause the
audience to accept all or part of the
expressed view. Though the overarching
goal of a persuasive speech is to convince
the audience to accept a perspective, not
all audiences can be convinced by a single
speech and not all perspectives can
persuade the audience.
