Hydra Operating Procedure

A) DO’s – WHILE OPERATING A HYDRA / ACE CRANE

1. The operator should have a Helper to assist him.

2. The terrain should be reasonably hard. The undulation of path


across the direction of travel ways should be less than 10 degrees.

3. While traveling, the bottom of the load should be approx. 300-500


mm above the ground & the boom should be in its lowest convenient
position.

4. Before using Hydra cranes, proximity hazards and obstructions to


the movement should be identified and corrected.

5. Apply parking brake and scotch block when the machine is parked.

6. Lift loads as far as possible with crane in unslewed position.

7. Helper to ensure avoidance of man movement within the vicinity of
crane.

8. Tyre pressure to be checked on daily basis

9. Provision of guy rope of required length on both side of object, during


movement with load.

10. The operator should stop the movement of the crane if the Helper’s
signal is not visible.

B) DONT’s – WHILE OPERATING A HYDRA / ACE CRANE.

1. Tandem lift should not be done. (Engagement of two Hydras to lift


single object).

2. Overloading of the machine should not be done.

3. Should not exceed road speed of 2 KM per hour while carrying


loads.
4. Should not exceed 10 KM per hour without load.

5. Not to drive the crane too close to the edge of ditch or excavated pit.

6. Mobile phone and radios should not be used by the operator and
helper while crane is in operation.

7. No other person should be in driver’s cabin during operation.

8. No oblique pulling on boom.

C) PROVISION OF ADDITIONAL FEATURES

1. Extended guard on front & rear wheel.

2. Extra reflective mirrors in operator’s cabin to overcome the difficulties


pertaining to the left side view.

3. Helper should be provided with whistle at ground to caution the


surroundings & his own presence to the operator

4. Removal of high speed gear lever to ensure machine speed within


10 KMPH

D) ADVANTAGES OF HYDRA CRANES

1. Load on hook is away from the operator.

2. Operator is at a higher elevation giving clear visibility with load on


hook.

3. Safe working in confined area due to high articulation angle
