Suggested material for the bag


Yarn Weight: Worsted / 10 ply (9 wpi)
e.g. Sugar 'n Cream Solids and Denim by Lily
Yardage: 120 yards (110 meters)
Unit weight: 70 grams (2.47 ounces)
Gauge (crochet tension): 13 Sc – 14 rows = 4"(10 cm)
Fibers: 100% Cotton
Texture: 4 single plies, S-plied, non-mercerized

You will need about 240 grams totally.

Colors:
Hot Pink 01740 (around one ball), Mod Blue 18111 (almost 2 balls), Hot Green 01712
(around half ball), small amount of: Rose Pink 00046, Soft Ecru 01004, Black 00002

Hook: I used a hook 4.5 mm (U.S. hook 7)

Other materials: black spangles average 0.9 mm, needle with blunt tip, common sewing
threads and needle, 4 holes buttons average 33mm – 2 pieces. One button average 2 cm.

Size of finished bag: the size of finished bag depends on used material and your style of
crocheting. If you will use another material the size could be different
My bag's measurement: 10,2 inches/26 cm height; 11 inches/28 cm width

This bag consist of three parts: the front-site, backside and the bottom of the bag. Crochet all
parts separately and then crochet them together.

Note: I know, that it is common to make 3 CH as first DC at the beginning of the circle round.
In this case, you will make 2 CH as first DC. It will look nicer :-)

Backside part: use mod blue yarn, 4.5 mm hook. You will work in circle rounds. You will not
turn the work after each round.
Beginning: 5 CH, join with 1 SlSt to form a ring
Round 1: 2 CH (count as first DC), 11 DC in the middle of the ring (12 DC). Join first DC with
1 Slip stitch, don't turn the work.

Round 2: 2 CH (count as first DC), 1 DC in very first stitch, [2 DC in every stitch from
previous round] repeat 11 times totally (24 DC). Join first DC with 1 Slip stitch, don't turn the
work.

Note: explanation of what I mean, when I write: make 1 DC in very first stitch

Round 3: 2 CH (count as first DC), 1 DC in very first stitch, 1 DC in next stitch, [2 DC in same
stitch, 1 DC in next stitch] – repeat the group in brackets 11 times totally (36 DC). Join first
DC with 1 Slip stitch, don't turn the work.

Round 4: 2 CH (count as first DC), 1 DC in very first stitch, 1 DC in next 2 stitches, [2 DC in


same stitch, 1 DC in next 2 stitches from previous round] - repeat the group in brackets 11
times totally (48 DC). Join first DC with 1 Slip stitch, don't turn the work.

11 times totally (60 DC). Join first DC with 1 slip stitch, don't turn the work.

Round 6: 2 CH (count as first DC), 1 DC in very first stitch, 1 DC in next 4 stitches, [2 DC in


same stitch, 1 DC in next 4 stitches from previous round] - repeat the group in brackets
11 times totally (72 DC). Join first DC with 1 slip stitch, don't turn the work.

From this round you will turn the work after each round.

Round 10: 1 CH, 1 SC in very first stitch, 1 SC in next 11 stitches, 1 HDC in next stitch, 1 DC
in next 5 stitches, [2 DC in same stitch, 1 DC in next 8 stitches] – repeat the group in
brackets 5 times totally, then crochet 2 DC in next (same) stitch, 1 DC in next 5 stitches,
1 HDC in next stitch, 1 SC in next 12 stitches (you will have 88 stitches) ; 1 CH for turning the
work, turn.

There will left 26 stitches (in the middle) from previous round. You will not crochet in these
stitches.

Round 11: insert hook in very first stitch, 1 SC in next 11 stitches, 1 HDC in next stitch, 1 DC
in next 6 stitches, [2 DC in same stitch, 1 DC in next 9 stitches] – repeat the group in
brackets 5 times totally, 2 DC in next stitch, 1 DC in next 6 stitches, 1 HDC in next stitch, 1 SC
in next 12 stitches (you will have 94 stitches); 1 CH for turning the work, turn.

Front-side part of the bag:


You will crochet front-side of the bag by same way as backside. You will use hot pink yarn.

Bottom of the bag:


Use green yarn, hook 4.5 mm
Row 1: make 7 CH, insert a hook in second stitch from the hook and crochet 1 SC in every
stitch from previous row (6 SC), 1 CH for turning the work, turn.
Row 2 - 94: 1 SC in every stitch from previous row (6 SC). 1 CH for turning the work, turn.
End the work after Row 94.

Crochet one row of SC around the longer sides of the bottom of the bag. You will make 94 SC
at both sides. Neaten free threads. Stretch out this part of the bag to sides a little bit, to next
work will go better :-)

Place the bottom (green) and the front-site part of the bag (hot pink) with wrong sides to each
other and crochet them together using SlSt. Use green yarn. You will crochet on the right side,
you will make 94 SlSt, then end the work.

Crochet turquoise and bottom part (green) together same way as front-side. Use green yarn
again. Neaten free threads.

Upper edge of the bag:


Use beige yarn, work in the circle rounds.
Round 1: 1 SC in every stitch from previous round (80 SC), join first SC with 1 SlSt, don't
turn the work.
Round 2: 1 CH, 1 SlSt in every stitch from previous round (80 SlSt). Join first stitch with
1 SlSt and end the work. Neaten free threads.

Flap:
Use light pink yarn, hook 4.5 mm
Row 1: make 7 CH, insert a hook in second stitch from the hook and crochet 1 SC in every
stitch from previous row (6 SC), 1 CH for turning the work, turn
Row 2 - 12: 1 SC in every stitch from previous row (6 SC), 1 CH for turning the work, turn
Row 13: 1 SC in next 2 stitches, make 2 CH for button hole, skip 2 stitches, 1 SC in next 2
stitches (you will have 4 SC + button hole), 1 CH for turning the work, turn

Row 14: 1 SC in next 2 stitches, 2 SC in 2CH space from previous row, 1 SC in next 2
stitches, end the work.

Crochet 1 row of SC around longer parts of the flap. You will make 14 SC at both sides. Neaten
free threads.

Sew the flap on the backside of the bag. Sew the button (average 2 cm) on front-side of the
bag.

Small buttons
You will make 12 buttons: 4 hot pink buttons, 2 green buttons, 2 beige buttons, 2 light pink
buttons, 2 mod blue buttons. You will crochet in spiral circle rounds – it means, that you will
not join the rounds with SlSt and don't turn the work after finishing every round.

Round 1: 2 CH, 7 SC in second stitch from the hook (7 SC)

Round 2: inc in each stitch around (14 SC)

Round 3: [1 SC in next stitch, inc] repeat 7 times totally (21 SC)

Round 4: 2 CH, back post half double crochet (BPHDC) in every stitch from previous round.
Join first stitch with 1 SlSt, end the work.

Back post half double crochet (BPHDC): is made by wrapping yarn over the hook, insert
hook from back to front to back around post of corresponding stitch below, yarn over and pull
up loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Buttons strings:
Crochet 6 strings, different length and different colors. I made 2 hot pink, 1 light pink, 1 beige,
1 mod blue, 1 green.

Longer strings:
Row 1: make 26 CH, insert hook in second stitch from the hook and make 1 SlSt in every
stitch, end the work
Shorter strings:
Row 1: make 20 CH, insert hook in second stitch from the hook and make 1 SlSt in every
stitch, end the work

Finishing of small buttons


Sew 4 black spangles on every button. Sew “x” in the middle. Then place two same colored
buttons with wrong sides to each other and sew them together. Don't forget to add the string
between them.

Round 6: 1 SC in every stitch from previous round (30 SC)

Round 7: 2 CH, back post double crochet (BPDC) in every stitch from previous round
(30 BPDc). Join first stitch with 1 SlSt, end the work.

Back post double crochet (BPDC): yarn over the hook, insert hook from back to front to
back around post of stitch to be worked, yarn over and pull up loop [yarn over, draw through 2
loops on hook] 2 times.

Plastic buttons holes:


Use black yarn, hook 4.5 mm

Button holes of green button (4 pieces):


Beginning: 4 CH, join with 1 SlSt to form a ring
Round 1: 1 CH, 4 SC in the middle of the ring. Join first SC by 1 SlSt, end the work ( 4 SC)

Neaten free threads. Sew the button holes on the button and sew “X” in the middle.

Turquoise button:
You will crochet in spiral circular rounds – it means, that you will not join the rounds and don't
turn the work after finishing each round. Use mod blue yarn, hook 4.5 mm

Round 1: 2 CH, make 7 SC in second stitch from the hook (7 SC)


Round 2: inc in every stitch from previous round (14 SC)
Round 3: [1 SC in next stitch, inc] repeat 7 times totally (21 SC)
Round 4: [1 SC in next 2 stitches, inc] repeat 7 times totally (28 SC)
Round 5: [1 SC in next 3 stitches, inc] repeat 7 times totally (35 SC)
Round 6: [1 SC in next 4 stitches, inc] repeat 7 times totally (42 SC)
Round 7: 1 SC in every stitch from previous round (42 SC)
Round 8: 2 CH, back post double crochet (BPDC) in every stitch from previous round
(42 BPDc). Join first stitch with 1 SlSt, end the work.

Plastic buttons holes: use black yarn, hook 4.5 mm

Button holes of turquoise button (4 pieces):


Beginning: 4 CH, join with 1 SlSt to form a ring
Round 1: 1 CH, 5 SC in the middle of the ring. Join first SC by 1 SlSt, end the work ( 5 SC)

Neaten free threads. Sew the button holes on the button and sew “X” in the middle.

Sew the buttons on the bag. Use black yarn and sew it in the line, you see on the picture
below. Don't see the edges, the button will look more plastic.

Hanging loop for the handle:


Crochet one piece of hot pink and one piece of mod blue loop.
Beginning: 21 CH
Row 1: insert hook in second stitch from the hook and crochet 1 SlSt in every stitch from
previous row, end the work.

Finishing of the bag:


Neaten free threads. Sew the hanging loops inside the bag, as you could see on the pictures
below.

Handle of the bag: Use mod blue yarn, hook 4.5 mm


Row 1: make 5 CH, insert a hook in second stitch from the hook and crochet 1 SC in every
stitch from previous row (4 SC), 1 CH for turning the work, turn.
Row 2 - 150: 1 SC in every stitch from previous row (4 SC). 1 CH for turning the work, turn.
End the work after Row 150.

Crochet one row of SC around longer side of the handle. You will make 150 SC at both sides.
Neaten free threads.

Important note: please remember, that the handle will stretch out because of the weight of
the bag. So adjust the length of the handle up to your preference. Draw the ends of the handle
through the loops at the sides and sew it. You could adjust the length of the handle by sewing
the buttons in different distance.

Sew the hanging buttons on the sides. Neaten free threads. And your new bag is finished.
