• Culture worldwide are changing, shifting and
adjusting to the invasion of technology
• The advance of technology mold and shape
daily lives
• Instead of communicating face-to-face,
individuals
– Uses telephones
– Leave voice messages
– Write emails, chat, whatsap, blog, twitter, e.t.c.
– Children play around computers and television
– Parents monitor their children using baby monitors,
beepers, cell phones, and CCTV cameras
– Telecommunications can now allow people to work
from home instead of commuting to office
– Begin relationships on internet
– Electronic shopping
– Paying bills
– Playing games
– Daily devotions and reminders
Impact on Teaching and Learning
• Technology has changed the way in which
learning occurs
– Those unwilling to read anything that require
concentration can use television or computer, or
e-readers
– Can access teaching materials online and can also
be accessed from home computers
– Access electronic encyclopedia
– Audio books (computer can read PDF files)
• Technology has changed the methodology of
teaching
– Teaching used to follow an oral tradition of
communication, where a large number of
students learned form one master
– Today, there is distance learning.

• Technology has also changed the learning
styles of students
• It must compete with their attention e.g.
– Use of graphics presentation software
– Use of keyboard from nursery school

• In order to remain competitive in a global
society, nations must remain receptive to new
technology and ideas
• Knowledge is power, and this power is
obtained from information
• Free flow of information nurtures democracy
• Use of satellites, internet
Impact on Healthcare
• HCW spend time gathering, sharing or seeking
information
• Technology assists at all stages of information
• Healthcare information has the power to
promote health and wellness e.g.
– Automation enables the practitioner to process
information that is accurate, unduplicated, free of
error, and accessible from remote areas by
multiple persons at one time
