(c) Explain why Ibrahim is important in Islam. [8]
Ibrahim is very important in Islam. To Muslims he is known as the 'father
of the Arab people'. Muslims look up to Ibrahim as a role model as he was
faithful to Allah and obeyed Him. Ibrahim came from a polytheistic home
where many worshipped other gods, the sin of shirk. But he rejected this
and believed that there was only one God, Allah. He obeyed God willingly
as he was ready to sacrifice one of his sons Ishmail when Allah said he
should. His two sons Ishmail and Ishaq went to be get as Ishmail was the
prophet to the Arabs and Ishaq a prophet to the Jews. Ibrahim is known
to be a prophet and he had revealed God's words and had recorded them
to the scrolls of the Shaifah, which are now lost by his followers. Ibrahim is
very important also as he had rebuilt the Ka'ba at that time; proving his love

for Allah. Making many Muslims look up to him.

(d) ‘Muslim belief in Al-Qadr (Predestination) means Muslims have no freedom.’

Discuss this statement showing that you have considered more than one point of view.

(You must refer to religion and belief in your answer.) [15]

Many Muslims will agree with the statement as Al-Qadr means Allah
knows everything and has planned everything. So for some Muslims
it is seen as Al-Qadr limits human freedom and really free will is pointless

Qur’an 64:4 ‘He knows what is within the heavens and earth and knows what
you conceal and what you declare. And Allah is Knowing of that within the
breasts.

Qur’an 18: 24 ‘Except [when adding], "If Allah wills." And remember your Lord
when you forget [it] and say, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is
nearer than this to right conduct.’
