INQUIRY-BASED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE GRADE SIX

(Guided Inquiry Using 7- E’s)
Quarter 2 (November 21, 2023)
I. Objectives
A. Content Standards

The learner demonstrate understanding of how the major

organs of the human body work together to form organ systems

B. Performance Standards

The learners should be able to make a chart showing healthful

habits that promote proper functioning of the digestive, circulatory,
integumentary, musculo-skeletal, excretory, respiratory and nervous
systems

C. Learning Competencies

Knowledge: Describe the structure and function of the parts of the

skeletal system (S6LT-IIa-d-1)
Skill: Perform the given tasks individually, by pair and by
group following the given house rules
Attitude: Show appreciation of our body and enumarate ways to
take care of it

II. Subject Matter:

A. Topic: Parts and Functions of Musculo-Skeletal System
B. References: 1. Science Beyond Borders, pp.40-45
2. The New Science Links, pp. 104-113
3. Breaking Through Science 6 RBEC Based pp.422-
427
C. Materials: Video Clippings Power point presentation Realia
Manila paper Scissors Marker
glue/ tape Activity Sheets
D. Concepts:
The skeletal system is the framework of the body. It is composed
of bones, bone marrow, joints, cartilage and ligaments. The bones
support and give shape to the body. It protects the internal organs in the
body. It makes body movement possible through the muscles attached to
them. It stores important mineral like calcium. It is where millions of
blood cells are produced.

E. Science Processes:
Observing, Comparing, Inferring, Characterizing, Communicating

F. Infused Value: Appreciation of Human Body. Our body is perfectly made

by God. May we have imperfections but we should learn to appreciate and
take care of it. Therefore, whatever God has given us, we need to protect,
preserve and utilize all these wisely.
G. Integration: MAPEH, ESP, English-Reading and Spelling, Math

III. Procedure/Teaching Strategy:

A. ELICIT
Have you observed how houses are built? What will the construction worker do
first?
How will you compare that to the human body?
Is there a framework that provides structure to the human body? What do you call
this framework?

B. ENGAGE
1. Review: Unscramble the letters to form new words being describe in each
statement. Integumentary System
1. The largest organ in our body. (INSK)
2. The outside/uppermost layer of the skin. (ERMISEPID)
3. The waste product that comes out of the skin. (ATWES)

2. Motivation:
The teacher will divide the class into four groups for the group activity and will
the learners’ output based on the rubrics.
1. Let the pupils connect the cut out pictures of the human skeletal system.
2. Do the Skeleton dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e54m6XOpRgU

C. EXPLORATION
1. Activity #1
This time, the learners will label the bones according to their background
knowledge.
2. Activity #2
In the same group, learners will state the functions of the skeletal system and
the ways on how we can take care of our bones.

D. EXPLANATION
Allow each group reporter to report their work. The teacher will check the
groups’ outputs.
ASK: How do you feel about the activity?

E. ELABORATION
Using the power point presentation and video clippings, the teacher tells
additional background of information about the Skeletal System.
Ask:
Have you learned much about our topic today?
What are the functions of our Skeletal System?

Activity#3
Point and Tell: To recall the Functions and Parts of the Skeletal System,
the learners will identify the parts of the Skeletal System using the human
body realia and explain its functions.

VALUES INFUSION:
Now that you know the importance of the skeletal system in our body, what
will you do to keep it strong and healthy? How will you embrace body
imperfections?

IV. EVALUATION :

Direction: Matching type: Match the parts of the skeletal system in column A
with the functions in column B.
Column A Column B
_____1. Skull a. protects the spinal cord
_____2. Spinal column b. a rigid case that protects the brain
_____3. Bones c. protects the lungs and the heart
_____4. Rib cage d. gives the body shape and support
_____5. Femur e. strong and long bones found in the thighs.

V. EXTEND
1. Explain how the bones and muscles work together.
