GRASPING GAME
1. Print the Fast Fingers Game Board. It may help to tape the board to
the table.
2. Print out a score sheet. The student can enter data for many
rounds on each score sheet.
3. Materials Required for Grasping- If you opt to play the game
without any grasping tools, then the child only needs their fingers! If
you opt to play the entire game or a round with a grasping tool,
you can supply each student with one of the following or
something similar:
• Small tongs • Claw “pickle” Grabber
• Clothespin • Rookie Stix
• Tweezers • Small magnet (&
• Other “chip bag” clips magnetic chips)

4. Objects Required to Grasp- You can supply a range of small

objects to grasp. The size, shape, weight, and texture of the object
will impact the child’s speed and accuracy for moving the objects
across the game board. For example, a tiny cereal piece may be
trickier to grasp than a small cube. A ball of play dough may be
trickier to grasp with tongs than only using fingers.
Here are some options:
• Pennies or other coin • Buttons
• Balls of play dough/putty • Pom Poms
• Magnetic chips • Small cubes
• Small erasers • Plastic chips/coins
• Cotton balls

*You will need 28 of each of the above to play the game.

5. Timer- this is needed to time out 1-minute intervals.

DIRECTIONS TO PLAY
1. Student will carefully place 28 small objects (see previous page/list for
suggestions) on each circle/safety float on the left side of the
Fast Fingers Game Board.
2. It will be determined if the student will grasp objects with only their
fingers or another tool (see previous list for suggestions).
3. Explain to the student that each small object must be picked up in a
sequential top to bottom and left to right manner.
4. Once the object is picked up, the student will release the object onto
the circle/safety float on the opposite side of the game board.
Student is to release in the same top to bottom and left to right
manner.
5. The small object must be placed within the circle/safety float before
moving on to grasp and place the next small object.
6. Therapist will tell the student when to “GO” and the timer will be
started for a 60 second duration.
7. The student will quickly and carefully grasp, and then release the
objects as previously described.
8. Stop the clock after 1 minute has lapsed.
9. Student counts how many objects were moved across the board
within the one-minute time period.
10. Do not count the objects that were not within the boundaries of the
circle/safety float.
11. Each student will fill out their score sheet to keep a record of their
progress.
12. A student can play against their own time, or you may wish to make
the game competitive with students racing against one another.
