SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN

QUARTER 2
SCIENCE 7 – Gold, Silver, Bronze
November 8, 2022

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards
The learners demonstrate understanding of the parts and functions of the compound
microscope.

B. Performance Standards
The learners should be able to employ appropriate techniques using the compound
microscope to gather data about very small objects.

C. Learning Competencies
Identify parts of the microscope and their functions (S7LT-IIa-1)

Specific Objectives
 Describe the functions of the different parts of a compound microscope

II. CONTENT
The Compound Microscopes

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

 Quipper Sci.7 Unit 4 Lesson 2.0
 PowerPoint Presentation, puzzled-picture

IV. PROCEDURES
A. ELICIT
(Review)

Recall that there are different types of microscopes.

Ask random students about the types of microscopes.
What are these types?
 A compound microscope uses two lenses and light to illuminate the object.
 A dissection microscope uses only one lens and light to illuminate the object.
 A phase-contrast microscope is known for its capability to change the position of the
light as it passes through a transparent sample.
 A fluorescence microscope requires the use of a fluorescence dye to create magnified
images.
 A confocal microscope uses a laser instead of natural light.
 An electron microscope uses a beam of electrons to illuminate images.

(Motivation)
PUZZLE

Divide the class into two (2) groups. Let them choose two (2) participants to play the game.
Provide each group with the materials needed for the game.
Let them solve the puzzle for five (5) minutes. Instruct them to paste their output on the
board.

B. ENGAGE
(Presentation of the lesson)
Now, based on the solved puzzle, what do you think our topic for today?

“The Compound Microscope”

Then, the teacher presents the lesson objectives.

 Describe the functions of the different parts of a compound microscope

C. EXPLORE
(Interactive Discussion of the lesson (provide task to work on)

Have an interactive discussion of the lesson. Use the prepared PowerPoint presentation to
aid the discussion.

Discuss that microscopes have three main divisions for parts.

 What are the three main divisions?
Discuss the mechanical parts of a microscope.
 What are the mechanical parts?
Discuss some of the magnifying parts.
 What are the magnifying parts?
Discuss the illuminating parts.
 What are the illuminating parts?

D. EXPLAIN
(Generalization)

The teacher will ask a series of questions. Ask a volunteer or call random students to answer
the question.

 What are the three main divisions?

 What are the mechanical parts?
 What are the magnifying parts?
 What are the illuminating parts?

E. ELABORATE
(Application)

Ask student volunteers to read each question and then suggest an answer. Check if the
answer is correct. If incorrect, ask another student to help their classmate. State whether the
part is a magnifying, illuminating, or mechanical part.

Parts Of Microscope Magnifying, Illuminating, Or Mechanical

Objective Lens Answer: Magnifying
Condenser Illuminating
Ocular lens Magnifying
Base Mechanical
Revolving Nosepiece Mechanical

F. EVALUATE
(Provide Formative Assessment)
Directions: Use ¼ sheet of paper. Write TRUE if the statement is correct. Otherwise, write
FALSE.
1. Microscopes have three main divisions for their parts.
Answer: true
2. Magnifying parts are for magnifying the specimen.
Answer: true
3. The ocular magnifies the image by 30✕.
Answer: false
4. The scanning objective lens is the most powerful objective.
Answer: false
5. The body tube is where the microscope should be grasped when carrying it.
Answer: false

G. EXTEND
(Enrichment Activity)

Draw and Label

On your activity notebook, draw a compound microscope and label the parts. Briefly
describe each part of a microscope.
