Goals  for  Exam  2:    ECE  606  Week  6,  Thursday,  Feb.  14,  2013

The  exam  will  be  conducted  in  class  and  will  consist  of  four  questions.    You  should  bring  a  
calculator.    A  sheet  of  key  equations  will  be  provided.  
 
This  exam  will  test  your  understanding  and  ability  to  work  with  four  concepts/topics:  
 
 
1) An  understanding  of  energy  bands,  E(k),  how  to  extract  information  from  a  given  
E(k),  and  constant  energy  surfaces.  
 
 
2) An  understanding  of  the  density-­‐of-­‐states,  Fermi  function,  and  how  to  use  them  in  
computations  of  carrier  densities.  
 
 
3) An  understanding  of  how  one  determines  the  electron  and  hole  densities  given  
information  about  the  doping  and  temperature.  
 
 
4) An  ability  to  interpret  “energy-­‐band  diagrams.”
