WORKSHEET

The #1 Way to Get Press Right Now

Welcome to lesson 2!

In this lesson, you learned the truth about PR.

It’s not about connections.

It’s not about hiring some fancy PR firm.

The truth is, when it comes to getting press, you need to DO something interesting.

Specifically, you need to give bloggers and journalists what they want: data to cite in their
articles.

When you do that, you’ll find that top-tier publications will WANT to write about you and
your business.

The question is:

How do you develop, create, present and promote that data the right way?

The Source Magnet Approach.

I’ll show you every single step of the process in detail throughout the rest of this course,
including how to collect your data, analyze it, write it up and get it in front of the right
people.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

For now, your first step is to brainstorm ideas for your Source Magnet topic.

And that’s exactly what we’re going to do in this worksheet.

STEP 1 Brainstorm Topics

A lot of people start coming up with topic ideas with a tool. Sure, tools are nice and all.
And I’ll talk about a few of my favorites in this worksheet.

The thing is, you might have a few topic ideas for your Source Magnet in mind already.
For example, I didn’t get the idea for our Voice Search SEO study from a specific tool.
It was more from just seeing that voice search SEO was a growing topic.

So go ahead and jot down 1 or 2 potential ideas for your Source Magnet below.

NOTE: None of the topics you write down on this worksheet is set in stone. You can
always change, add, or delete them later on. So there’s no need to worry about
finding the perfect topic. Just jot something down and move on to the next step. I’ll
show you how to choose and refine your Source Magnet topic in the next lesson.

STEP 2 Find Existing Industry Studies

Existing industry studies, PDF reports, and whitepapers are a goldmine of Source
Magnet topic ideas.

To find them, pop these searches into Google and Google News.

[Topic Idea] + industry study

[Topic Idea] + survey

[Topic Idea] + analysis

PRO TIP: Try searching for topics that are a little bit outside of your exact niche.
For example, let’s say that you sell mattresses. Instead of “mattress + survey,” search
for “sleep habits + survey.”

Write down 2-3 potential topic ideas here.

STEP 3 Stats Pages

Stats Pages (like this and this) are pages that list a bunch of stats from other places.

And these Stats Pages almost always cite stats from industry studies.

So when you find a Stats Page, you have a list of proven Source Magnet topics at your
fingertips.

And not just any topics: topics that people are already linking to!

To find them, just search for “keyword statistics,” “keyword stats,” or “keyword list of
stats.”

Then, check out the sources for each of the stats. As I said, many of these will be
industry studies.

And jot down 2-3 potential topics here.

STEP 4 Collect Your Topics

Now it’s time to put all of your topics in one place. That way, you can easily look them over
in one place.

So copy and paste the topics that you found above into this box.

And with that, you’re done!

Now that you have a list of potential Source Magnet ideas, you’re ready for the next lesson.

In that lesson, I’ll show you how to choose the best topic from this list. And refine that idea
so that it will work GREAT as a Source Magnet topic.

See you in lesson 3!
