PROJECT OVERVIEW

This is a transformative Information Systems (IS) project for DMMA College of

Southern Philippines aimed to enhance its online presence and improve the
functionality of its existing website, including the student portal. This project will address
the constant issues of an outdated and inefficient online platform that has hindered the
college's ability to effectively communicate and engage with its stakeholders.

PROJECT RATIONALE
The reason behind this project is the imperative need to modernize the college's
online infrastructure. Despite the college's active presence on various social media
platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, its primary online hub, the website, has
remained stagnant and unattended for several years. This disparity between active
social media engagement and a neglected website has created a disjointed online
experience for students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders. The project's initiation is
motivated by the desire to rectify this situation and establish a cohesive, informative,
and dynamic online platform.

HIGH-LEVEL AIMS
The high-level objectives of this project are clear and in alignment with the
SMART criteria:
Specific. Enhance the website's information dissemination capabilities and
revamp the student portal.
Measurable. Measure the success through increased website traffic, user
engagement, and student portal utilization.
Achievable. Leverage available resources and technology to achieve the
desired
improvements.
Relevant. The project's relevance is evident in the digital age, where online
presence is vital for educational institutions.
Time-bound. The project will be completed within a defined timeframe, ensuring
timely implementation.
CONTEXTUAL BACKGROUND
Over the past years, DMMA College has actively embraced digital channels for
communication, utilizing various social media platforms to disseminate information.
However, the DMMA College's website has remained stagnant and hasn't received the
same attention, this persistent problem is failing the college to keep pace with its digital
ambitions.

SIGNIFICANCE
In today's digital age, a robust online platform is not just an accessory but an
essential tool for achieving educational excellence. The project's success will enable
DMMA College to better serve its students, faculty, staff, and the broader maritime
community.

Moreover, enhancing the website of the college will ensure more attraction and
engagement from prospective students, preparing them to become outstanding
professionals ready to excel in the local and global maritime and other markets. This
project is not just about improving a website; it's about advancing the college's core
mission and commitment to education and professionalism.

SCOPE AND CONSTRAINTS

This project's scope includes a comprehensive overhaul of the college website
and student portal. However, constraints related to budget and available resources must
be carefully considered to ensure successful project execution.

ALIGNMENT WITH ORGANIZATIONAL OBJECTIVES

This project is intrinsically aligned with DMMA College's visionary goal for the
year 2030, which envisions the college as one of the leading education, training, and
assessment institutions in the world, dedicated to producing highly competent graduates
and professionals for the maritime industry and related businesses. The enhancement
of our online presence, particularly through the revitalization of our website and the
student portal, is a pivotal step toward realizing this ambitious vision.

In a rapidly evolving educational landscape, establishing a strong digital

presence is essential for attracting the best talent, fostering global collaborations, and
ensuring that DMMA College remains at the forefront of maritime education and training.
Modernizing the college's online platforms will not only meet the immediate needs of
DMMA College's stakeholders but also position itself as a dynamic and forward-thinking
institution capable of delivering its long-term vision.

This project will significantly help the college in reaffirming its commitment to its
industries, its students, and the global community it serves. We recognize that the
successful execution of this IS project is not just about improving the website; it is about
taking a major step toward becoming a recognized leader in maritime and non-maritime
education and training worldwide.

STAKEHOLDER IDENTIFICATION
Primary stakeholders for this project include college administrators, faculty, staff,
students, and prospective students who interact with the website regularly. Moreover,
the alumni, the parents, and the local community have a stake in the DMMA college's
online presence.
