1 Introduction
1.1 Scope
This document describes the system principle of Supporting Three-Digit Mobile Network Code (MNC)
(GBFD-111901 Supporting Three-Digit MNC).

1.2 Intended Audience

This document is intended for:
 Personnel who need to understand Supporting Three-Digit MNC
 Personnel who work with Huawei products

2 Overview of Supporting Three-Digit MNC

Huawei BSC starting from BSC6000V900R008 supports three-digit MNC. The BSC6900 supports both
three-digit and two-digit MNCs. The BSC6900 satisfies the networking requirement of countries where
the MNC consists of three digits.

Technical Description
The MNC consists of two or three digits. For Personal Communications System operating in the
1,900MHz band (PCS1900) for network access, federal regulation mandates that a three-digit MNC shall
be used. With the three-digit MNC, the number of networks that can be described increases from a
maximum of 100 to a maximum of 1000. A network operator, however, may decide to use only two digits
in the MNC in the LAI over the radio interface.
Mobile equipment compliant with earlier versions of 3GPP specifications may be unable to identify the
three-digit MNC format of the LAI, and therefore unable to register in a network broadcasting the LAI in
this format.
