Dear Parent/Carer

Year 8 trip for ALL students to Ackers Adventure – June 2024

This year we will be taking the whole year group to Akers Trust Outdoor Adventure Centre. This is provided in a way to make it accessible to the whole year group. If there is anything about the trip which you would like to

talk about in order to make it accessible for your child please contact us. At John Henry Newman Catholic College we are committed to developing your child's cultural capital. This means we will do all we can to give them

experiences which will lead to a broad and engaging approach to life.

The ‘Newman Experience’ for Year 8 this year will be to benefit from a fantastic opportunity to go to the Ackers Adventure Centre. Students will experience a range of different activities such as Archery, Climbing, Canoeing

and Skiing. This is an excellent opportunity for students to come together and bond further with others in their year group.

Ackers is situated in 75 acres of diverse woodland just 2 miles from Birmingham City Centre. Ackers has a wide range of facilities including a 100m dry ski slope suitable for skiing, snowboarding and tubing, a toboggan

slope, 4 outdoor climbing walls, 2 archery bases, a bush craft survival area and a team building field. Ackers also benefits from the Grand Union Canal which runs through the site making it an ideal location for canoeing,

kayaking and bell boating activities.

Your child will visit Ackers by coach for a full action packed day. They will visit Ackers on ONE of the following dates; Tuesday 25 June 2024, Wednesday 26 June 2024 or Thursday 27 June 2024

The total cost of the trip is heavily discounted at just £30 (non-refundable). This must be paid by the Tuesday 30 April 2024. Payment will be via parent pay which can also be used to grant permission.

Students will need to wear/bring the following:

● For the Ski Slope: a long sleeved top, long trousers and gloves. For skiing we would also recommend bringing long socks and ideally wearing loose fitting trousers so that the trouser legs can go over the

outside ski boots.

● Outdoor Activities: tracksuit and trainers or equivalent.

● Water based Activities: complete change of clothing (including shoes) and a towel. Jeans are not suitable.

● Packed Lunch - Free School Meals will be catered for.

We are really looking forward to running this trip.
