A thuismitheoirí,

I wish you all a restful Easter Break next week. The children have had another busy half term and I
would like to thank you for your continued support in everything we do here in Scoil Naoimh Éanna.

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2022

Seachtain na Gaeilge was once again a huge success in Scoil Naoimh Éanna. The children really
embraced the two weeks as an opportunity to incorporate Gaeilge into their everyday lives. We
enjoyed Lá Glas, Séan-nós dancing, traditional singing, Tráth na gCeist, colouring competitions and
stories amongst many other fabulous individual classroom activities. My thanks to all staff for their
contribution and continuous encouragement of Gaeilge sa scoil. Maith thú gach duine!
Yard
We are constantly reviewing practices in Scoil Naoimh Éanna and recently we have taken the
decision to review playground activities. We have decided to implement ‘’Mix it Up Mondays’’ and
‘’Football Free Fridays,’’ as a means to encourage children to engage in games, other than ball
games. This allows our children the opportunity to use their imagination and become creative in the
playground. This has been a huge success and we will continue to monitor and implement this new
strategy.
P.E.
Our thanks to Rosita Shackelton for completing 6 weeks of dance with the Junior Classes. Enda
O’Brien continues with Basketball coaching this week. The children are really enjoying this and
improvements can be seen week on week. Term 3 will see Monaghan GAA commence a further
block of coaching in our school. Well done boys and girls!
School Tours
Details of all school tours have all been released, we are delighted to be able to travel again. Please
make payments as soon as is possible for your family. Please do not hesitate to contact the school, if
you need to arrange a payment plan or any other assistance. Thanking you all kindly.
Teaching Practice
We currently have two students on Teaching Practice in 1st and 3rd Class. We are delighted to
welcome them to our school. My thanks to Ms. Doherty and Ms. Lambe for the guidance and
facilitation of the programme.

Digital Literacy
Since returning to school in September, we have endeavored to update our IT resources in our
school. To date, we have replaced three Interactive Whiteboards with new Android Screens. We
have purchased a number of new laptops and a secure area for them, as well as updating the
hardware already in place. In the modern age, we feel it is important to equip our children with
Digital Literacy Skills.
This week, children in 4th, 5th and 6th class will be sent home with instructions as to how to set up a
school email account using Gmail. There will be set up instructions and an email format provided.
Please follow the instructions precisely as they are laid out. On the same sheet, there will be a space
to provide us with the password to the email account which will be stored securely in school. The
email address will be used for school activities ONLY. It should not be used for personal use. Please
return to class teacher before Friday 8th April 2022. Thank you for you assistance and support with
this.
Spellings for Me
As we constantly review our practices, we are currently reviewing our spelling programme.
Spellings for Me, is an Irish programme, that we will be trialing in the summer term with 1st, 3rd and
5th Classes before we make any changes. An email will be sent with a Parental Guide, so if you’re
child is in any of these classes, please take a little time to have a look through the guide. You will not
be able to log on, as we do not have an official school profile, but you will be able to look at videos
and get a flavour of the programme.
Sacraments
As a school, we extend every good wish to 2nd Class and 6th Class as they continue to prepare for
First Eucharist and Confirmation.

Cumann na mBunscol
Our girls continue to represent our school with distinction on the football field. We have been so
thrilled with their performances to date, but more than that, their sportsmanship on the field of play
has been a true credit to them, Mrs. Mooney and you their families. Maith sibh cailiní and Mrs
Mooney.
The boys competition will begin in the near future and my thanks to Mr. McElroy for giving of his
time to train the boys team.
Maternity Leave
At the end of the month, I will commence my maternity leave. At this point, I would like to thank the
whole of the school community for their support since my arrival here in Killanny. Mrs. Breda Duffy
will assume the role of Acting Principal and Ms. Clare Doherty will assume the role of Acting
Deputy Principal, my thanks to them both for this. I would like to wish all of the staff and pupils all
the very best for the summer term and I look forward to working together on my return.

Is mise le meas,
Emer Quinn
