September Newsletter 2021

Dear Parents,

It has been a great first three weeks back at school and I would like to congratulate all classes for
making such a positive start to this school year. A special mention to our new Junior Infant pupils
Aaron, Anna, Aoibheann, Aoidha, Cassius, Eoghan, Finn, Hanna, Patrick, Sadie, Sam, Zoe and Éanna
on settling in so well. We also welcome Megan Doherty (1st Class) and Aidan Doherty (3rd class) to
Kilkishen N.S. and we hope they will be very happy here.

I would like to bring the following announcements to your attention:

Sacraments

Pupils of 3rd class celebrated making their First Holy Communion on Saturday September 11 at
Kilkishen church. Congratulations to all pupils and their families and a special thank you to Mr.
Declan Walsh, Ms. Amy McNamara, and Fr. Donal Dwyer for their work in preparing the pupils for
the sacrament.

The 2021 6th class celebrated making their Confirmation at Kilkishen church on Saturday August 21.
Past pupils Lily Boyce, Ellie Frost, Luke Canny, Nathan Woods, Dylan O’Brien, Louie Donnellan,
Jamie Harmon, Declan Greaves, Ashling McNamara, Eve Cleary, Hayley McMahon, John Harwood,
Charleigh McInerney, Sean Kennedy, and Aisling Kelly were confirmed on the day. Thank you to
Ms. Amy McNamara for leading the ceremony’s music and Fr. Donal Dwyer for celebrating the
sacrament.

COVID – 19

Thank you for your continued compliance with safety measures around pupils’ arrival and departure
from school. It is now more important than ever that we all follow the guidelines issued to ensure
the safe and sustained re-opening of our school. If your child is feeling unwell or displays any
symptoms such as a cough, high temperature or sore throat, please do not send your child to school.
All classes are now fitted with CO2 monitors helping to inform teachers that adequate ventilation is
being provided in each classroom.

Collection After School

Pupils are requested to cross the road at designated pedestrian crossings. Junior to 3rd classes pupils
use the pedestrian crossing at the playground. Pupils in 4th to 6th class use the pedestrian crossing at
Pat O’Connell’s house. A teacher will be on duty to ensure pupils cross safely at these points. Infant
to 3rd class parents are requested to wait at the playground railings to collect their child having crossed
the road. Collection times are busy so we ask that no cars are parked in front of the school. This is to
ensure there is a clear line of sight for everyone crossing the road. Thank you for your cooperation.

Parents Association Committee Elections

Members of the Parents Association that have completed 2 years on the committee are due to be
replaced for the coming school year. I would like to sincerely thank Brendan Hannon Chairperson ,
Caitriona Shanahan Treasurer, and Orla McMahon 6th Class rep for their work on the committee.
Details of voting to select new Junior Infant, first Class and Fifth Class representatives will be sent on
Aladdin. Parents of pupil’s in these classes will be requested to vote for their preferred candidate to
join the PAC. The parent that receives the most votes will be asked if they are willing to take a seat on
the PAC. If a parent does not wish to sit on the PAC, the candidate with the next highest number of
votes will be asked. Voting deadline is Friday September 24.

Allianz Insurance, Arts & Crafts, Photocopying and Accelerated Reader

Individual pupil bills for the above items will be sent home via Aladdin shortly. These bills can be
paid online. If you would like to arrange a planned, staged payment plan for these items please contact
the school principal in confidence. Thank you.

Hurling and Camogie Coaching

Pupils in all classes from Infants to 6th class will receive hurling and camogie coaching every
Thursday. Pupils are asked to wear tracksuit, runners and bring a hurley and helmet. Pupils also have
a designated P.E. day as allocated to their class. Pupils are required to wear their school tracksuit on
this day also. On non P.E. and hurling days, pupils are requested to wear their full school uniform.

If you wish to contact me regarding any matter or school issue, please do not hesitate to contact me on

look forward to working with you in the coming year.

Yours sincerely,
