WELDING SHOP SAFETY RULES

1. Free access to the workshop areas is restricted to authorised


personnel only. No other person may enter the workshop without
permission.
2. Do not operate any item of equipment unless you are familiar with
its operation and have been authorised to operate it. If you have
any question regarding the use of equipment ask the area
supervisor.
3. No welding may be undertaken unless the area supervisor is
satisfied that the person is capable of doing so safely.
4. During any welding operation the welding fume extractor (Fans)
must be used.
5. Personal Protective Equipment is provided; overall, safety
shoes, hand gloves, Apron are to be worn all the time. Safety
glasses/goggles must be used where necessary. Long hair must
be tied back or completely covered to keep it away from moving
part of the machinery. Do not wear ties, loose clothing
6. Tools and equipment’s must not be removed from the welding
shop without the permission of the area supervisor.
7. Do not carry loads such that the weight may be dangerous or
vision obscured. Get help in lifting or moving any heavy objects.
8. Report any defective equipment /tools to the area supervisor.
9. Eating and drinking in workshop areas is strictly prohibited.
10. Never indulge in horseplay in the shop areas. Running in the
workshop is strictly prohibited
11. Report all electrical and mechanical faults of machines
immediately.
12. Materials that catch fire easily should be store away
13. Check for inflammable gas leaks before you start working in the
workshop
14. Use equipment’s and tools for their intended purposes.
15. Equipment must be cleaned after use. Any materials, tools or
equipment used must be tidied away.
16. In case of injury, no matter how slight, report it to the shop
supervisor.
17. In case of fire, do not panic. Give an alarm and leave the room
orderly as instructed by area supervisor.
