Guidelines:
Research:
Each team is responsible for conducting thorough research on the assigned topic. Explore various
credible sources to gather information supporting your opinion.
Preparation:
Team members in Section 1 (For) should collaborate to build strong arguments supporting the
topic. Similarly, Team members in Section 2 (Against) should work together to construct
compelling counterarguments.
Presentation:
Each team will present their arguments during the debate. Be prepared to articulate your points
clearly and concisely. Visual aids, statistics, and real-world examples are encouraged.
Rebuttal:
After the initial presentations, teams will have the opportunity to respond to the opposing
arguments. This is a crucial aspect of the debate, so be ready to think on your feet.
Format:
The debate will follow a structured format, with specific time limits for each segment. Make sure
to adhere to the given time constraints to ensure a fair and organized discussion.
Evaluation:
Teams will be evaluated based on the clarity of their arguments, the strength of their evidence,
and their ability to engage with opposing viewpoints.
Judges:
Judges take notes, compare, evaluate the content and the delivery, reflect, decide.
Debate Format:
This is the format for each debate.
Opening Statements: (Total Time: 10 minutes)
In each team, Section 1 (For): Present your opening statement supporting the topic. Clearly
outline your main arguments and provide a brief overview of your team's perspective.
In each team, section 2 (Against): Present your opening statement countering the topic. Clearly
outline your main arguments and provide a brief overview of your team's perspective.
In each team, section 1 (For): Respond to the opening statements presented by Section 2
(Against). Refute counterarguments and reinforce your team's position.
In each team, section 2 (Against): Respond to the opening statements presented by Section 1
(For). Refute counterarguments and reinforce your team's position.
Members from both sections engage in a direct questioning and answering session. This allows
for a more dynamic exchange of ideas and challenges between teams.
In each team, section 1 (For): Summarize your main arguments and make a compelling closing
statement in support of the topic.
In each team, section 2 (Against): Summarize your main arguments and make a compelling
closing statement countering the topic.
Q&A Session: (Total Time: 10 minutes)
Allow the audience to ask questions (if they have any) to any team or specific members. This
encourages engagement and critical thinking from the audience.
While the judges deliberate, teams can briefly reflect on the debate or prepare for potential
follow-up questions.
Judges' Feedback: (Total Time: 10 minutes)
Judges provide constructive feedback to each team, highlighting strengths and areas for
improvement.
