DEVELOPMENT

WHO IS THIS COURSE This is a practical course for geologists and mining engineers involved in resource
FOR? estimation, grade control or conditional simulation systems. Although introducing the
basic concepts of geostatistics, it covers some very advanced topics. It focuses on
variography, kriging and conditional simulation.

COURSE OVERVIEW The Surpac Advanced Geological Analysis and Geostatistics three-day course offering
insight into some of the most advanced geostatistical techniques, providing practical tips
for implementing resource estimation and grade control. This is a practical course that
demonstrates most modern geostatistical tools recognised in the mining industry with
some worked examples.
The simulation activities will be carried out using the GSLIB module, which is widely
available in many commercial software packages.

PREREQUISITES The course programme assumes attendees have some exposure to variography, although it
will teach you how to fit geostatistics into the mining workflow.
Completion of the Surpac Foundation or Surpac Geology Intermediate courses or
equivalent experience and competency in the use of Surpac is also required.
The Surpac menu structure and graphical user interface (GUI) are similar to most Windows-
based packages and therefore a basic knowledge of the Windows operating system and
environment is necessary.
