One of the sustainable sources in our society is agriculture it portrays a big role to the
farmers and to our country they are the ones that responsible to supply food. The word
hydroponics comes from the roots “hydro”, meaning water, and “ponos”, meaning labor, this
method of gardening does not use soil. The hydroponic is a method or technique of growing
plants with the water based nutrient solution rather than soil. The aim of hydroponic in plants is
to embrace the changes in crop production. The earliest examples of hydroponics date are in 10th
century, were the Aztecs reportedly using floating garden nearby lakes, Hanging Gardens of
Babylon and the Floating Gardens of China. Humans used these techniques thousands of years
ago. Although the general theory behind hydroponics remains the same, modern technology has
enabled us to grow plants faster, stronger, and healthier. John Woodward developed the first
hydroponic nutrient solution in 1699 after coming to the conclusion that nutrients were easier for
plants to get in water than in soil. The 20 th Century saw a huge in surge in research and
developments regarding human growth.
Hydroponic is less soil farming that can be done outdoor or indoors, Hydroponic is a great
option for people with less space in the garden but want to grow vegetables and herbs through
the cold weather, its less space and takes less water than gardening in soil. It’s a way to grow a
huge variety of plants. Hydroponic farming is a process to grow a plants in a nutrient solution
more than a soil. Instead of the roots growing into dirt and gaining nutrients that way, the
hydroponic is different the roots grow into a liquid solution that is fortified with all the essential
nutrients for healthy plants. In traditional garden, plant is seeking out nutrients in the soil. In
hydroponic farming, nutrients are dissolve in the water that surrounds the roots, so plants have
easier to gain a nutrition they need. Results, Plants are growing very quickly, big and beautiful.
Problem Statement
There's been a crisis nowadays in land farming due to factors such as land space, weather,
quality of crops, demand for a certain product, water usage, and the use of pesticides. These are
the issues that affect today's land farming and may have a negative impact in the future.
Agricultural Land is a soil-based traditional land farming that farmers commonly use, this
is heritage cropland, and we use this for growing crops, and production of foods. Due to rapid
population growth and Economic development our agricultural lands turn into commercial
buildings and residential areas. On the other side, it affects the production of food and other
necessary resources. To know and understand its impact on the environment and its ability to
ensure food security for all people, we should analyze how we can sustain the production,
distribution, and consumption of food.
Water is important in land farming and also in every agricultural farming too, but there’s
been a crisis that affect our Filipino farmers, being too little or too much of water supply. Climate
change has been around here in our country the Philippines in which we have our only 2 seasons,
the wet season and dry season. Because of climate change, global warming, and other man made
destructions, it affects the supply of water needed in land farming. Now our dry season is
becoming too hot that causes drought in our land and other bodies of water where we can get our
supply of water. When it’s wet season, the water became too much and drown the crops, because
we experience multiple typhoons that destroy the land farming. Other reasons too are the rapid
growth of population, because of that more citizens needs water for their everyday use too, some
may argue that even the politics could be the reason too because since they are in control, there
could be poor planning that creates this problem.
With the increasing of population here in the Philippines, there’s also a demand with huge
production of crops needed. But that also means more residential areas are needed to support the
increasing population, thus they use agricultural lands to build houses and other commercial
buildings. Climate change is also the reason of our poor crop production, disasters like erosion
and typhoon destroys the land and also the crop planted on it. This might result for farmers to
loose their investment if this problem continues. The farmers might give up and sell their land
property because they are not earning properly because of its crisis in crop production.
Use of pesticides consist of chemical compound that is used to kill pests, insects, rodents,
weeds, and fungi. However it can harm humans and other living things if they get in contact or
consume the chemicals that used in the crops and if the person who consume those chemicals can
cause a severe illness.
Weather is important in growing the crop, every plant or product need a specific weather
or temperature in order for it to be successfully grow. Because of climate change, it’s been a
problem to grow the cops properly because the weather always change and destroy the quality of
the crop, that’s why we need to always check the weather and it could be time consuming too.
And because of that, that’s one of the main problem farmers are facing here in the Philippines.
