Illustrate the scope and need of humanistic and existential therapy with the realistic
problems of the present. How will you apply these therapeutic applications
in a real session?
From the Adlerian perspective, my early life would have been shaped by the interactions
between my unique family dynamics, my innate temperament, and the social context in which I
grew up. Here's the psychobiographical sketch of those formative years:
I entered the world as a curious and energetic child, eager to explore my surroundings. My
family, consisting of loving parents and several siblings, provided a lively and sometimes chaotic
environment where I quickly learned to assert myself amidst the competition for attention and
resources.
As the second child in a large family, I often found myself striving for recognition and
significance. From an early age, I exhibited a strong sense of independence and a desire to stand
out from my siblings. This drive for superiority, as Adler termed it, motivated me to excel in
various areas, whether it was academics, sports, or social interactions.
My parents, while supportive, also had high expectations for me and my siblings. They instilled
in us the values of hard work, perseverance, and responsibility. However, their busy schedules
meant that I often had to fend for myself and take on responsibilities beyond my years. This early
sense of self-reliance fostered a resilient and determined mindset, but also contributed to
occasional feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Throughout my childhood, I encountered numerous challenges and setbacks, from academic
struggles to conflicts with peers. Yet, I approached these obstacles with a sense of optimism and
determination, viewing them as opportunities for growth rather than insurmountable barriers.
This optimistic outlook, combined with a strong belief in my ability to shape my own destiny,
became hallmarks of my personality.
As I navigated through my early years, I developed a keen awareness of the social dynamics at
play in my environment. I observed how my behavior and choices influenced the perceptions of
others, and I learned to adapt my approach accordingly. While I valued relationships and
connections with others, I also recognized the importance of maintaining my independence and
individuality.
Overall, my early life experiences from birth to 15 years old were characterized by a dynamic
interplay between my innate characteristics, family dynamics, and the social environment.
Through the lens of Adlerian psychology, I emerged as a resilient and determined individual,
driven by a strong sense of purpose and a belief in my ability to overcome obstacles and achieve
my goals.
