RHEOTAXIS

One random night on August 2011, I just, well, woke up. I’m five, I’m a kid, and
I’m watching the tv with my mother and kuya. Consciousness came to me like the rush
of rivers. “What’s this? Where am I?” I asked my self. That’s when I realized, I’M
LIVING.
Elementary school was fun. It was my first experience to be somewhere with
other kids aside my brother. One thing I can remember is that I was always the kid to
just go with the flow. Whether a project is due, there’s an exam, or even when
competing on contests, I would just always, well, face it. There was time in fifth grade
where I was chosen to be a member of balagtasan. As a kid who doesn’t give much
care, I just disregarded it. Then the day of the competition came and I was still
memorizing it. I told my coach, “Ma’am, I don’t think I’d be able to memorize all of this”.
She answered, “NO! I know you can. We still have time. Give it your all”. With those
words, I was able to be motivated and give my all. And as she said, I was able to
memorize. Unfortunately, we still got second place because one of our member messed
up her line. But still, I used the motto “go with the flow” because I think it was an
amazing quote.
Junior high school came. At last, I’m a high school student. Still confident with my
life motto, I faced my new experience. But reality hits. I wasn’t able to be on the list of
honors. I was disappointed. I was the second honorable during my elementary
