The aim of this research is to explore the impact of tourism on women's experiences in Hunza
Valley. Your valuable insights will contribute to a better understanding of how tourism has
influenced the lives of women in this region. your responses will be kept confidential, and the

women who are involve in income generation activities in different sectors.

1. Can you describe your involvement in tourism-related activities (e.g., hospitality,


guiding, handicrafts, etc.)?
As a banker I am not directly involved in tourism but I have indirect involvement in
tourism related activities like providing financial services to businesses and individuals
within tourism industry,
2. Have you personally experienced any changes in life due to tourism in Hunza Valley?
In Hunza Valley, the impact of tourism are profound and multifaceted. Tourism can bring
many opportunities, it can also pose challenges and pressures on local communities. I
have experienced issues such as overcrowding, environmental degradation, cultural
commodification, and changes in traditional lifestyles. Balancing the benefits and
drawbacks of tourism requires community engagement, sustainable management
practices, and effective governance.

3. What are the different income generation activities in which women are involve?
In Hunza Valley, women are actively involved in various income-generating activities
that contribute to their households' economic well-being and the local economy. Some of
the income generation activities in which women participate include handicrafts,
homestay and guesthouse operations, agriculture activities, tourism services and Small-
Scale Entrepreneurship. Women entrepreneurs in Hunza establish small-scale businesses,
such as shops, boutiques, cafes, and food stalls, catering to local residents and tourists.
They sell a variety of products, including handicrafts, clothing, accessories, local
produce, and snacks. Entrepreneurship provides women with opportunities for economic
independence and self-empowerment.
4. Have you faced any barriers or challenges in accessing education and skill development
opportunities? Overall the education system og hunza valley is getting better with
passage of time. Moreover, the only challenge I have faced during my education journey
is limited resources, including inadequate infrastructure, insufficient educational
facilities, and a shortage of qualified teachers to get higher education.

In my opinion there are some key support and resources that can empower women to
achieve greater financial independence like Access to education, financial literacy
programs, Access to microfinance , Access to market and entrepreneurship support

The overall impact of tourism on the culture of Hunza Valley is multifaceted. On one
hand, it has brought economic opportunities, improved infrastructure, and exposure to
different cultures. However, it has also led to changes in traditional practices,
commercialization of local culture, and environmental degradation. The influx of tourists
has influenced the way of life in Hunza, impacting everything from traditional attire to
language and cuisine. While tourism has its benefits, it's essential to manage it
sustainably to preserve the unique cultural heritage of the Hunza Valley.

Tourism has had a significant impact on the economic status of women in the Hunza
Valley. With the growth of tourism-related activities such as handicrafts, homestays, and
guiding services, women have gained opportunities for employment and
entrepreneurship. Many women have started small businesses selling handmade crafts,
textiles, and food items to tourists, contributing to their household income and financial
independence. Additionally, the hospitality sector's expansion has created job
opportunities for women in guesthouses, restaurants, and tour companies. However,
challenges such as gender stereotypes and limited access to education and resources still
persist, hindering women's full participation and benefit from tourism-driven economic
growth.

and social dynamics.
