 How many more fish did Emily catch than Jose?
 How many fish did the girls catch?
 How many fish did the boys catch?
 By how many fish was the boys’ catch fewer than the
girls?
 Find the sum of the fish caught by all five people.
We can solve the problem.
 By subtracting: 5 – 2 = 3
Emily caught 3 more fish than Jose.
 By adding: 5 + 6 = 11
The girls caught 11 fish.
 By adding: 3 + 2 + 4 = 9
The boys caught 9 fish.
 By subtracting: 11 – 9 = 2
The boys caught 2 fish fewer than the girls.
 By adding: 3 + 5 + 2 + 6 + 4 = 20
Five people caught 20 fish.
