Teaching notes

These translation cards can be used in a variety of ways to practise school phrases which
include ‘il y a’ statements.

Give each student or pair one of the French translation cards. Students have to translate
them into English (orally or on mini-whiteboards) and then pass them on and translate
the next one. At any point, you can call out one of the English translations (on p.2) and
ask the student(s) with the matching French to stand up and read their card.

For more challenge, give out the English cards and follow the same steps.

You could also project a selection of the phrases in English/French. Read out one of the
sentences translated into French/English and get the students to race to say (or write on
mini whiteboards) the correct phrase number before you get to the end of the sentence.
