Assessment
70% of the grade is based on exams or obligatory tasks. Equal weight will be given to oral and
written English.
Classwork, homework and attitude will be the other 30%.
If you don’t do all the exams or don’t pass the continuous assessment, you will do a final exam at the
end of the term which will be 100% of your mark.

Reading: English Language

English is an international language. It is used in businesses in France, in congresses in Germany, in
factories in Japan and in classrooms in Spain. It is a language that many people from many countries
have in common.
“Why do we use English in a meeting in Hungary?”, asks Sandor. “Why do we write proposals in
English for a company in Brazil?”, asks Paola. They use English because it is the language that the
employees from different countries can understand.
“We all have a knowledge of insects in common”, says Pyotr, a scientist at an international
investigation laboratory in Argentina, “but if we can't communicate, we can't work together. English
is the language we use. Sometimes a person complains that the majority of scientists speak Spanish,
and it is better than English, but we have new scientists every year and it is easier if they have to know
English.”

Patty – My children put the clothes outside and my husband organizes them and I sit on the patio

I read a book.
