WARNING

Failure to follow the procedures in this manual may result in an electrical and/or
mechanical safety hazard and failure to meet government requirements, as well
as damage to the ArtPix Mobile EZ2GO.

The FDA (CDRH) requires that manufactures must include a specific requirement that the
assembler perform all applicable tests at the time of installation. A thorough explanation of the
equipment required and step-by-step instructions must provide by the manufacturer. The
instructions include a requirement to record key data to demonstrate at installation that all test
were performed and that the equipment was left in full compliance with the standards.

As an assembler you must perform these tests for the applicable requirements at the time of
installation and following any repairs, which could alter the performance.

ArtPix Mobile EZ2GO is not suitable for fluoroscopy, angiography and mammography applications.

Attention: Installer Service Personnel and Technician

It is necessary for the assembler to verify compliance of the series of tests. A series of tests, when
performed at the time of installation, with 21 CFR, sub–chapter J, part 1020, performance
standards.

These tests are described in - Acceptance Test and must be performed before releasing ArtPix
Mobile EZ2GO for use. In order to facilitate a timely installation and ensure compliance, it is
recommended that the installer review this manual and its entirety and then start at the
beginning, following all procedures in each section according to the displayed order.

Before beginning system calibration, verify that the following items have been installed and
properly calibrated according to their manufacturer instructions:
 X-ray system, including the X-ray generator
 Collimator
 Generator Calibration
 Tube Calibration
 X-Ray Beam Alignment (Tube / Detector Perpendicularity)
 Filtration check
 Half Value Layer
 Light to X-ray field alignment

4.2 Access Point and New Detector Configuration

In order to be used with the ArtPix Mobile EZ2GO SW, the EZ detectors need to configure
once using the ArtPix Mobile EZ2GO SW configuration files.
The ArtPix Mobile EZ2GO can be set to work with Mobile Carts using only the USB AP Adapter
or in a Fixed Room environment using either the USB AP Adapter or an external WAP (typically
Cisco).
In case the Fixed Room AP Support Option is being used, follow instructions in section ‎7.3.7
“Fixed Room AP Support Option” to configure the Network Connections and the Cisco WAP
first, prior to setting the AP and new Detectors below.
Please note that the Detector And DICOM Configuration tool may require the use of the
Detector Backup Cable (BUC) supplied with each detector while connected to the USB/LAN
converter for detectors that were not previously connected to any system, this in addition to
the IR device (used to configure the detectors IP/SSID/Password).

4.2.1 Access Point Configuration guidelines

The configuration is done using the Detector and DICOM configuration tool, from the System
Utilities menu.

4.2.2 Configuring a New Detector

The following process typically can be performed with new/”out of the box” detectors using
an IR device and detector backup cable (BUC) or with “used” detector already configured
to work in 5GHz WIFI channels using only the IR device without the need for the detector
backup cable during the detector configuration process (from software version >3.01.07).
The detector configuration process will start by first setting the detector IP & SSID/Password
using the IR device then will try to connect to the detector trough WIFI (in 5GHz), if
connection filled, a message will be prompted to connect the detector backup cable when
then it will try to connect to it using one of the chosen/available LAN adapters.

4.3 Detector Calibration

The Detector calibration is done using the Pixrad Viewer software while using the X-ray system
console to set the required dose parameters for the detector calibration process.
The radiation emitted from the X-ray Tube throughout the calibration process is automatically
triggering the detector to start integration for each image acquisition.
There are 3 Application Modes being used in the detector: Mode 4 = 0.5sec, Mode 5 =
3.2sec, Mode 6 = 1sec. The calibration needs to be done only for mode 6 (1sec) and the
same reference files created are used for modes 5 & 4 (reference files are duplicated when
launching the ArtPix Mobile EZ2GO SW).
The calibration acquisitions must be done in the following conditions for CSI detector:
- SID = 180cm
- 1.5 Copper filtration (verify no extra filtration in the Collimator)
- Collimator slightly open larger than the detector (in manual mode)
- No Grid
- Perpendicularity between the tube/collimator and the detector must be maintained.
- No object is present in the x-ray beam between the tube and the detector.
- The detector must remain stable during the calibration
- It is highly recommended to use an absorption substance (such as lead apron) under
the detector to avoid burn-in ghosting during calibration due to backscattering.
- Dose = The following X-ray parameters are used during the calibration of the Detector:

Number of
Calibration Dose kVp mAs*
acquisitions
Gain 10 25µGy 85kV 40mAs
Defect Map 1 2.5µGy 85kV 4mAs
1 5µGy 85kV 8mAs
1 50µGy 85kV 80mAs

* Estimated, mAs can be modified as necessary to gain the requested Dose however,
mSec used must not exceed 400ms pulse with.
4 different doses will be requested to be set at the generator, one dose for 10 acquisitions of
the Digital Gain creation at 25µGy and another 3 acquisitions at 3 different doses for the
Defect Map creation at 2.5µGy, 5µGy, and 50µGy sequentially.
Throughout the calibration process a message may appear indicating that the dose applied
to the detector is ether too high or too low:

In such event change the generator mAs as necessary and press Resume to proceed with
the calibration.

4.4 Detectors Sensitivity Measurement

The detector sensitivity is measured in the factory during final testing (in RQA5) and can be
found inside the detector delivery box printed on a paper.
The sensitivity of the detectors needs to be measure and confirmed to be within range per
each detector configured to work with the ArtPix Mobile EZ2GO system (450-700 GL/Gy). The
sensitivity will eventually be used to accurately determine the Exposure Index (EI) for each
image (See User Manual for more details).
Before beginning detector sensitivity measurement, verify that following conditions are met:
- The specific detector is calibrated as per Detector Calibration section ‎4.3 above
- SID = 180cm / 1.5 Copper filtration (verify no extra filtration in the Collimator)
- Exposure parameters et to 85kV/40mAs
- No Grid /Collimator open within the detector edges (in manual mode)
- Perpendicularity between the tube/collimator and the detector must be maintained.
- No object is present in the x-ray beam between the tube and the detector.
- It is highly recommended to use an absorption substance (such as lead apron) under
the detector to avoid backscattering.
- Set the dosimeter in the X-ray field
If using a solid-stat place the dosimeter laying center on the detector
For an Ion-chamber or dosimeter effected by scattering see below recommendation

Good practice for measuring dose using Ion-chamber dose meter:

Typical error in dose measurement is due to inclusion of scattered radiation in the
measurement. The following are guideline to avoid measurement errors. Ion-chamber
dosimeters are more prawn to back scatted radiation compared to solid state dosimeters.
Minimizing back-scattered radiation
 Place the dosimeter at least 40cm from any abject.
 The dosimeter should be preferably place in the middle of the x-ray beam,
perpendicular to the tube axis (perpendicular to the heel effect axis).
 Collimate the x-ray field to the size of the detector
 Place the dosimeter 40cm above the detector and correct the dose measurements by:

( )

Where and are the dose and SID at which the measurement was performed and
and are the dose and SID of interest. This setup is shown in Figure bellow.

4.7.5 Hospital/DICOM Network Settings

There are three ways to connect Hospital DICOM Network to the ArtPix Mobile EZ2GO using
the Tablet WiFi (Internal), using LAN when Tablet is docked in the Docking Station (Local
Area Connection) or, using a USB/LAN Adapter connected directly to the Tablet upper USB
port when tablet is undocked.
In any way, the USB and USBap Network Connections should not be changed or touched
since it is used for communication with the detector:

Network setting for DICOM is done using the Detector and DICOM Configuration utility from
the SystemUtilities shortcut in the ARTPix folder on the desktop:

Hospital DICOM Network Settings for WiFi/LAN

1. Pending hospital WiFi/LAN avilibelity, set to enable either or both by checking the related
checkbox in the Detector and DICOM configuration tool:
For WiFi choose the Internal from the dropdown
For LAN Choose the Loacl Area Connection (typicaly DICOM) from the dropdown.
Note: for LAN, use the Docking station LAN port to connect to the Hospital network.

Page 71 of 160 Setting and Calibrating

62756877- J SW V.3.02.01

2. Configure the Internet Protocol to work in either Static IP (fixed IP) or in DHCP (Automatic).
Set the IP and DNS following instructions and Information obtained from local IT.

3. In cases were LAN is enabled and more then one docking station is being used with one
tablet, repeat above steps 1-2 while tablet is docked and connected with LAN on other
Docking Stations.

Imprrtant notes:

DICOM Storage Commitment:

When using DICOM Storage Commitment the local network settings needs to be static IP
and not DHCP for the feature to properly work.

DICOM/Detector IPv4 Setting to avoid Network Collisions:

If a DICOM/Detector IP address starts with the same 3 doted decimal as the IP address of a
local IP then it will create a collision in broadcasting.
E.g. DICOM IP address 192.168.37.5 will make collision with Detector IP 192.168.37.21.
In such case the Cisco IP, Detector NIC IP (Host IP) and Detector IP (192.168.37.21) should
start with 10.0.0.xxx.

* The allowed Detector IP address is 192.168.ww.xx or 10.0.yy.zz while xx must be lower than
100 (in case where above IP limitation is not sufficient to avoid network collusion).

Network Collisions will result in an unstable network behavior and may lead to an
unexplained loss of communication between the ArtPix Tablet and the Pixium
Detector

4.9 Windows Firewall settings

Windows Firewall Must remain in OFF state

Activating the Windows Firewall will result in communication lost with

the Detector

In case where the windows Firewall must be activated, the relevant ports used to send and
receive data from the detector must remain “open”.
The ports used to transfer the image and communicate with the detector are based on the
detector IP‟s:
Where IP is 192.168.ww.xx or 10.0.yy.zz, (xx ≤ 100, zz=0..255)
- Detector will respond to host on port 2043+xx (or zz) – ranged between 2043-2298
- Detector will send image to host on port 5998+xx (or zz) - ranged between 5998-6253

Example:
for IP address 192.168.37.20,
- Response port is 2043+20 = 2063
- Image transfer port is 5998+20 = 6018

5 Acceptance Test
All test results should be recorded on a printed copy of Appendix B

5.1 Image Raw Data Assessment

Run Pixrad and connect to one of the detectors defined in the system, and load its
correction files for Acquisition Mode 6 (follow instructions in section ‎4.3.1 Detector Gain &
Defect Map calibration.
Acquire an image in the same physical conditions used for the Gain
calibration (25µGy) in Application Mode 6 (rad autotrigger: 1sec) section
‎4.3 Detector Calibration, and perform Gain Flatness and Defect Pixel
check as described below. Repeat the test in 2.5µGy dose.
In case the ArtPix Mobile EZ2GO system is used with several X-ray system
(different x-ray Mobile units), it is recommend to perform the acceptance
test in at least 3 systems in the same physical conditions and very
consistency.

5.1.1 Gain Flatness

Visually inspect the image and verify its flatness.

If in thought using the Mouse right button create an ROI on the image with a size of roughly
400x400 pixels and measure the Mean GL value in the center & 4 corners and verify there is
no variation higher than 10% of GL between the Average of the 5 Mean GL measurements.
If variation found to be higher than 10%, check X-ray tube/Collimator are properly calibrated
and lined-up. Verify calibration conditions are met, and recalibrate the detector.

Page 83 of 160 Acceptance Test

62756877- J SW V.3.02.01

5.1.2 Defect Pixels

Using the mouse wheel, zoom into the image and with the right and bottom scroll bars scroll
through the image verifying that there are no visible Defect Pixels.
If defected pixels or artifact are viewed, verify calibration pre-conditions are met (see
section ‎4.3) and recalibrate the detector.
If necessary perform Manual Defect Map Creating (for more details see section ‎7.10
“Detector Manual Defect Map Correction".
Example for defected pixels:

5.1.3 In Bucky and Grid test

If the Detector is also used with Grid frame or in a Bucky, acquire flat images at the same
conditions as above for the Gain and DM test (use nominal SID and compensate with the kV
mAs to achieve the same dose - 25µGy and 2.5µGy) and verify no artifact is visible.
If artifact exists, examine the Grid frame or the Bucky for any deformation, misalignment or
object that may create the artifact.
Repeat the Test for all existing detectors and Buckies.

5.2 Image Quality Assessment

Two tests needs to be performed for image quality assurance. Low Contrast sensitivity and
Spatial Resolution tests are recommended to be performed as part of the system
acceptance test.
The test is done using the main ArtPix SW with proper phantoms in the following conditions:
- 1.5mm copper filtration
- SID 180cm
- 85kV,5mAs
- Resolution LP phantom slanted at 45deg.
Register a patient with Chest examination acquire an image and send it to the PACS.

Test measured is done at the PACS with following expected results:

- Spatial Resolution: at least 3.15lp/mm
- Low Contrast: 1.8%

5.3 ECV (Effective Cluster Value)

Every time the ArtPix software is started, the ECV is checked and verified it is within
predefined tolerance, if ECV found to be high, a warnings will pop-up during SW starts.
ECV predefine threshold:
- for 3543EZ: ECV < 150000,
- for 2430EZ: ECV < 100000.
Therefore, the ECV need to be check after every detector calibration. If ECV found to be
higher than above values, the calibration conditions needs to be rechecked and detector
calibration repeated. The following needs to be checked before Detector recalibration:
- Calibration files need to be checked and verified (Offset/Gain/Defect Map in
P:\__Exe\CorrectionTables\PixiumDetectors - Drag and Dropped in to the Pixrad
Viewer) specifically the Defect Map file.
- Collimator light is calibrated and slightly larger than detector edge
- No foreign object obscure the field of the image
- No damage to the detector surface that could be resulted in high ECV
* If ECV still found to be high, this must be reported & checked by Thales.

6 Maintenance
6.1 Overview
Periodic maintenance should be performed at least once every 12 months. The following
activities should be done during periodic maintenance:
 Recalibrate all detectors and perform Image Raw Data Assessment with Pixrad (see
section ‎5.1) if necessary repeat calibration
 Perform Image Quality Assessment from the ArtPix Main SW (see section ‎5.2)
 Clean Tablet dust cover as specified in the Tablet User Manual
 Perform full System Backup (see section ‎4.12)
Additionally, some maintenance procedures need to be carried from time to time, following
parts replacement and certain system indications. The following procedures are described in
this chapter:
 Daylight Saving time setup
 Regular SW backups at any service visit or before and after any configuration changes to
the system such as SW upgrades, protocol changes, calibration DICOM services settings,
calibration, etc…
 Maintenance of the Tablet and the Pixium EZ detector and its accessories (battery and
charging module)

6.2 Periodic System Calibration

It is recommended to perform the Detector calibration procedure, as described this Manual,
every 12 months, or before when necessary, due to IQ problems. It is preferable to perform
detector calibration (on installation or periodic maintenance) after a few days the system
was not operational (for example weekend or holiday) to avoid any residual ghosts
affecting the images used for calibration. Prior to performing the calibration process, backup
the calibration files using the backup tool as described in the Operation Manual.

6.3 Regular SW backup

A regular and routine full backup is recommended to be performing periodically during
service visit, especially before and after any configuration changes to the system.
It is recommended to save this backup on an external storage device in addition to locally
on the system (in D: drive) followed by a short text description of the event in which after the
backup was performed.
See section ‎4.12 System Backup for Backup instructions.

6.5 Detector Cleaning, Sterilization and Disinfection Instructions

The Portable detector can be cleaned using a moist cleaning cloth that complies with ESD
safety conditions. Note that the detector is not waterproof.

NOTE:
When using the Pixium EZ detector outside a Bucky, contact may be made between the
detector housing and patient‟s body. Always clean the detector before using it for new
patient or alternatively, insert the detector inside a certified plastic bag.

Thales recommends wrapping the Portable detector using a disposable plastic bag (which
is X-ray transparent) in order to prevent infection by virus or bacteria.
The following table provides a list of materials that can be used for cleaning the EZ
detector.
The table contains clinic agents with the associated active substances and shows their
effect in terms of cleaning efficiency or damage risk on the detector.
This effect is indicated by the first quote (+, 0 or no) in the column “clean”. The meaning of
the quote is as follows:
 “+” means a perfect cleanness even after several hours exposure;
 “0” means that slight discoloration might occur especially for several minutes to hours
exposure;
 “no“ means that the surface might be seriously affected and thus is not guaranteed by
specification.

6.6 Tablet Cleaning and Sanitizing

The tablet manufacturer recommends the following disinfectant wipes for cleaning and
sanitization:
- Sani-Cloth® Plus Germicidal Disposal Cloth
- CaviWipes™
- Total Solutions™ Disinfectant Wipes
- Clorox® Germicidal Wipes

It is advised to use the recommended disinfectant wipes to prevent the prolonged

exposure of the tablet to chemicals that can cause oxidation and paint discoloration, and
break down the rubber that seals the devices.
Thales merely coveys the tablet manufacturer‟s recommendations and is not liable for any
damage caused while using the above wipes.

EZWAP – Cisco/ EZ Detector:

 In case where more than one ArtPix system is used or in an event where one ArtPix
system is used with more than one Cisco (each has different Docking station), each
Cisco in the hospital should have different IP and different SSID/Password.

 The Cisco WAP and EZ Detector IP should start with the same 3 first doted decimals of
the Host IP, e.g. 192.168.37.xx

 The last doted decimal of the Cisco WAP IP should be 50-99

 The SSID of the Cisco should be “ARTPIX-50” to “ARTPIX -99”, to match the Cisco WAP
IPs‟ last doted decimal (50-99).

 Every EZ detector should have different IP where the last doted decimal should be 20-
49.

 In cases where an EZ detector is shared amongst two Thales systems (Multi share), the
EZ Detector IP and Host IP should be set the same in both systems.
E.g. Host IP: 192.168.37.131, EZ Detector IP: 192.168.37.21 set in both systems.

DICOM/Detector IPv4 Setting to avoid Network Collisions:

 If a DICOM/Detector IP address starts with the same 3 doted decimal as the IP address
of a local IP then it will create a collision in broadcasting.
E.g. DICOM IP address 192.168.37.5 will make collision with Detector IP (192.168.37.21).
In such case the Cisco IP, Detector NIC IP (Host IP) and Detector IP (192.168.37.21)
should start with 10.0.0.xxx.

* The allowed Detector IP address is 192.168.ww.xx or 10.0.yy.zz while xx must be lower

than 100 (in case where above IP limitation is not sufficient to avoid network collusion).

Network Collisions will result in an unstable network behavior and may lead to an
unexplained lost communication between the ArtPix Tablet and the Pixium
Detector

2. Cisco* Reset Settings and IP set (in case IP unknown)

1) From the network connections, Right click to Disable All NIC except for the USB2LAN

Battery Charger with 4 battery status LEDs:

If the power LED is off, verify that the AC /DC adapter is well plugged to the battery
charger on one side and to the mains plug to the other side
Fault status LED:

When the bottom orange LED is lit, this may indicate the following default situations:
- Charger to battery communication
The battery is not asserted correctly in the charger. Remove battery and re-insert. If the
problem persists this could indicate a faulty battery.
- Battery temperature
The battery has communicated with the charger that it is not within the safe operating
temperature to charge. The battery does not need to be removed from the charger to
cool. The charger channel will remain in a fault condition until the battery is removed
and re-inserted without an over-temperature condition being present. If problem
persists check connectors are not damaged or battery is not faulty.
All four LEDs per slot:
If no LED is illuminated on battery insertion, then the battery is not inserted correctly.
Remove and re-insert it. If the problem persists; check connectors are not damaged or
battery is not faulty.

7.10 Detector Manual Defect Map Correction

The following procedure will allow adding new defective pixels to a current defect map
reference file using Pixrad Viewer Software.
In general when new defective pixels appear in the image , as a first measure, it is always
advised to first perform full detector calibration, during which a new Defect Map file will
automatically be created overweighting existing file(see section ‎4.3.1 Detector Gain &
Defect Map calibration).
If still, during Image Quality test, some defect pixels exist, follow below procedure to
manually correct these pixels by adding them to the current Defect Map file.

In an event where pixels intermittently appear, it will be required by the end user to save the
last image data of an acquired image when defective pixels exist (see section ‎0 above)
while the data saved can be used for the manual pixel flagging and correction.

Manual Defect Map Correction

1. Launch Pixrad Viewer and follow steps 1 to 7 in section ‎4.3.1 Detector Gain & Defect Map

Worklist Hospital Examination Names Matching

ArtPix default DICOM tag used for Hospital Examination Matching is 0032,1060 (Requested
Procedure Description) however, it is possible to modify the tag used ether by using a
standalone tag or a tag part of a sequence. In cases where a different Tag is being used by
the hospital RIS, it is possible to browse the ArtPix Merge.log for the DICOM activity to identify
the matching tag.

Matching using Requested Procedure Description (0032,1060)

The SW default tag is 0032,1060 (Requested Procedure Description) without nested tag
(not part of sequence tag)
If this tag (0032,1060) is used by the hospital RIS for matching, than the matching can be
set using the patient registration in the SW, when choose examination during patient
registration to an unmatched examination this tag content can be viewed and copied
from the bottom Right “Procedure Description” field. Then copied to the matching list in
the patient registration:
- Register the patient coming from the Hospital RIS , when getting to the Select Exams
screen, the matching code can be viewed under the Procedure Description filed:

- Select the Exam required to be match to this Code and select to copy the Procedure
Description filed:

Page 156 of 160 System Connection to DICOM Modalities

- Select the Hospital Examination Name filed from the ArtPix Settings and paste the
Code previously copied, select the examination from the Examination Dropdown and
choose Add:

Worklist Hospital Examination Names Verification using ArtPix Merge.log file

The Merge.log file can be found under P:\Log folder

The following example can provide an explanation of how to look for the relevant
information in the Merge log in order to determine the right setting for the Hospital
Examination Tag and the Hospital Examination Nested Tag to be used when setting the
Hospital examination name matching in the ArtPix SW (SW Settings):

Example "Snapshot" from ArtPix Merge log:

- The patient name is HECTOR EDWARD (Patient Name can be searched in the log by
CTL+F)
- The Hospital matching code in this case is - XR PELVIS 3 VIEW (AP,INLET,OUTLET)
From the following Merge Log there are 3 ways in which matching can be done for this
Patient/examination:
1. Using 0032,1060 tag (Requested Procedure Description), without the Nested tag (filed
empty)

2. Using 0008,0104 tag (Code Meaning) and the Nested tag will be 0032,1064 (Requested
Procedure Code Sequence) - see below SQ and the actual tag is Tabbed spaced after

3. Using 0040,0007 tag (Scheduled Procedure Step Description) and the Nestled tag will be
0040,0100 (Scheduled Procedure Step Sequence) - see below SQ and the actual tag is
Tabbed spaced after
