Pre-assessment of current knowledge: Before beginning, I will ask the children to identify any musical instruments they know and to demonstrate any way they
can make music or rhythm. I will also play different sounds and ask the students to describe what they hear.

children. This will record their progress in rhythm and
melody recognition, allowing for easy comparison and
monitoring over time.
Differentiation: For children who may need more support, I
will provide simplified tasks and tactile instruments to help
them engage at their own pace.

Procedural steps:
1. I will begin the lesson with a “hello song” that will
include clapping to introduce rhythm. The song will
incorporate the children’s names to engage them.
2. Then we will play pass the beat. Where we will sit in
a circle and start a simple beat by clapping hands or
tapping a drum.
3. The beat will be passed around the circle, with each
child having the chance to replicate the beat once.
a. During this exercise I will introduce variations
by changing the speed or using different
instruments.
4. Then we will play the game loud or soft. This is when
children will play sounds at different volumes.
5. Children will move their arms up or down based on if
the thing the sound is loud or soft.
6. Next, I will explain what melody is.
7. I will then lead the children in a simple melody using
a xylophone.
8. The students will listen and then repeat the melody
one by one
9. Lastly, we will discuss what we learned and conclude
with a “calm” song.

tambourines, speaker
