II) Verbs of liking:
- The verbs: Love, prefer, like and hate can be used with both gerunds and to-infinitives without much

- Some verbs are only followed by gerund: enjoy, detest, fancy, mind....
Ex: John enjoys running.
III) Comparative forms of adjectives and adverbs:

1) Tobe:

V) Articles: a, an, and the
1) a: - used before a countable singular noun:
- Ex: I have a dog.
- used to mean “any, every”:

2) an: - used instead of a before a noun beginning with a vowel sound:

3) the: - used before a noun that has already been mentioned or is easily understood:
- Ex: There is a festival in my village. The festival is very old.
- used to refer to a noun that is the only, or obvious one of their kind:
- Ex: The Kinh speak Vietnamese.
- used before superlative comparison of adjectives and adverbs:
- Ex: He is the tallest student in my class.
VI) Modal verbs:
1) Should/shouldn’t: is used to express advice:
- Ex: You should respect old people.
2) Have to: is used to express obligation or necessity. It shows external obligation, i.e., someone else
makes a decision about what you must do.
VII) Simple and compound sentences:
1) Simple sentences:
S + V/be +……...
- Ex: I enjoy playing tennis with my friends every weekend.
2) Compound sentences:
S + V/be +……. +, conjunction + S + V/be +………..
- Ex: I like spring, but I don’t like the spring rain.
VIII) Complex sentences:
1) A complex sentence includes one independent clause, and one (or more) dependent clause. The
dependent clause can go before or after the independent clause.
- If the dependent clause goes before the independent clause, it is followed by a comma (,).
- Ex: While the elephants are racing, people cheer to encourage them.

2) A dependent clause begins with a subordinator such as: When, while, because, although/eventhough,
