1 GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
This text description defines the electrical as well as mechanical characteristics and requirements for a
continuous-duty three-phase, solid-state, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system. The UPS system shall
provide high-quality AC power for sensitive electronic equipment.
1.2 STANDARDS
1.2.2 IEC/EN 62040-2 Category C3. UPS Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements
1.3 WARRANTY
The UPS shall be covered by a full parts and labor warranty from the manufacturer or authorized service
partner for a period of 12 months from UPS commissioning date.
2.1.1 Normal operation mode (Online): DC power rectified from AC mains input shall charging the
batteries and same time powered the inverter, that transforms DC power to stable and clean AC power
for various loads. The “Double Conversion” technology allows regulating the utility to provide pure
sine wave and stable power to critical load.
2.1.2 Battery operation mode (Backup): During a power event (blackout, input voltage out of tolerance,
fluctuation etc.) occurs, the UPS will automatically transfer from normal mode to battery mode, where
the battery will provide power to the inverter and then to the critical load. After the restoration of AC
mains power on UPS input, the UPS will retransfer from battery to normal operation and will charge
the battery. Transfer from normal to battery mode and vice versa happens with zero (0) transfer time.
2.1.3 Bypass operation mode: When the inverter encounters any abnormal situations (such as over
temperature, long-time overload, output short-circuit, abnormal output voltage and battery exhausted
conditions) the inverter will shut down and automatically transfer power to static bypass. After
abnormal situations are eliminated, UPS will transfer power back to the inverter output immediately
without interruption.
2.1.4 Manual bypass operation mode: Manual bypass is an optional feature. Additional cabinets required
for this function. In maintenance or repair service condition, it is important to cut-off the UPS power,
but not the power to UPS load. It is recommended to switch load on auto bypass first, then manually
switch manual bypass breaker. After switching off input and output UPS breakers, there is no power
inside the UPS and service engineer can perform the maintenance or repair tasks safely and critical load
is supplied. When manual bypass breaker is in on condition, its auxiliary contact protects inverter from
switching on accidently.
2.1.5 ECO operation mode: In ECO mode, the load is normally connected by automatic bypass when the
bypass power is stable. If bypass power becomes abnormal, the load will automatically transfer to the
inverter. After bypass power returns to the normal tolerance, the load transferred back to bypass
automatically.
2.1.6 Frequency Conversion mode: UPS is capable to convert frequency from 50Hz to 60Hz or vice versa.
This operation mode cannot be used with ECO mode. Automatic or manual bypass transfer is not
allowed under this condition.
2.1.7 Parallel operation mode: The system has the option to install up to eight (8) UPSs in parallel
configuration for redundancy or capacity.
2.2.2 UPS Input: The UPS system input shall be configurable as single or dual powered from a WYE (star)
three phase source. Standard cable entry is from rear top.
6. Input current distortion THDi: < 3% @ 100% load when input THDv is less than 1%.
7. Power walk in time: During mains restoration, the current draw from source can be controlled step by
step with 1~5 sec interval per module. This shall be adjustable from 0 ~45 Sec for a complete 500kVA
system.
8. Sequential Start-up: In the case of multiple UPS it is possible to set power input restoration delay time
upon power recovery. Adjustable from 0~99 sec.
9. Input Power with fully charged battery and 100% load: 455kW.
3. Output THDv:
a) ± 2% for linear load.
b) ± 5% for non-linier load.
2.2.4 Bypass:
1. Bypass AC voltage range: ± 15% adjustable.
2. Bypass frequency range: 50/60Hz Auto selectable, ± 5Hz adjustable.
3. Short circuit capability: 10 times of rated current for 20ms.
4. Bypass protection: Semiconductor fuse 1200A 500V (600A fuse * 2 in parallel).
2.3.1 General: The input section consists of rectifier, PFC/booster and battery charger. Rectifier converts 3
phase AC input voltage into DC voltage (approx. 325 VDC), which is boosted and regulated by PFC to
DC BUS values ± 360 VDC. Dual DC BUS (+360V, N, -360V) provides power to inverter and battery
charger.
2.3.3 Input power factor: Input PFC controlling and correcting input power factor. PF values are more than
0.99 at even from 25% to full load.
2.3.4 Charger: Power unit contains a DC-DC converter and battery charger. Charger input is supplied from
DC BUS (+360V, N, -360V) in normal and bypass operation mode. Output of battery charger is fixed
at +/- 272V in float charge mode, +/- 280V in boost charge mode; the maximum charging current is 135A
(15 Amp per 50kVA module).Charging voltage is adjustable to meet the various charging voltage
requirements of different battery manufacturers.
c) Temperature compensation: Active only in float charge mode, when the battery temperature
sensor is detected.
Temperature compensation will follow the highest detected temperature among all sensors.
The factor of temperature compensation is -3.3mV/cell, base temperature is 20 °C (no compensation at
this temperature).
The temperature compensation active range is within 0 to 40°C.
2.4.1 General: Output inverter with capacity of 500kVA / 450kW (450kVA/450kW) is part of each UPS
system. The inverter converts DC BUS voltage to sinusoidal output 3-phase voltage. Output inverter is
IGBT based with PWM control.
2.4.2 Overload Capability: Overload conditions < 150% of system capacity is sustained by the inverter for
60 seconds in normal and battery operation. If overloads remain over the limitation, the critical load
will be switched to the automatic static bypass of UPS.
2.4.3 Output Power Factor: Rated output power factor is can be up to Unity (1.0). So it is possible to
connect with wide range of load having different power factor.
2.4.4 Output PF acceptable range: UPS work without any de-ration of output kVA when connect with
different PF load range from 0.5 lagging to 0.9 leading.
2.5.2 Automatic Transfers: An automatic transfer of load to static bypass will be carried out, whenever the
UPS detects overload on inverters or in any case when UPS can’t support the critical load. Transfer
from static bypass back to inverter output will automatically perform after overload or failure condition
is not present in UPS system anymore.
2.5.3 Overloads: The static bypass is rated and capable of handling overloads equal to or less than 105% of
the rated system output continuously. For overloads caused by inrush current or short circuit conditions,
the static bypass can sustain overloads of 10 times rated current of system capacity for 20 milliseconds.
2.5.4 Back-feed Protection: Back-feed protection is using to detect failure of the bypass static switch and
prevents voltage from being passed back to the input terminals of the UPS from the inverter output
while running in battery mode. When back-feed is detected, the UPS will provide signal to output dry
contact which will help to open external contactor or circuit breaker. Second option is to configure to
turn off inverter in such event.

most recent status and alarm events.

minimum set of alarm conditions shall be available:
