DEBATE EAPP
TOPIC: ONE CHILD POLICY

***THIS WILL BE THE SCRIPT IF “AGREE”***

(INTRODUCTION)
CANLASUE:
Good afternoon, everyone. I am Via Gail Canlas together with Jemric Aldaba, Gabrielle
Gloria, Ralph Vincent Reyes, Kennedy Meija, and Kobe Dela Cruz.

And at this moment, we would stand for the significance and benefits of the One Child
Policy program’s implementation.

The past generation of China faced a rapid population growth - with one million more
births than deaths every five weeks. For this crisis to be brought under control, one child policy
was launched.

The one child policy was part of the birth planning program implemented by China in the
1970s to control the size of its national population to make sure that population growth did not
outpace economic development.

This policy was supported within the country by 76% of China’s population. Moreover,
the policy play a significant role in developing China’s economy and raising the living standard of
their people.

Without a rapid decline in fertility, China's economy would not have grown by 7-8% a year
over the past; such growth has lifted an unprecedented 150 million people out of abject poverty.

ALDABASUE:
(FIRST POINT IF AGREE)

I agree about ONE CHILD POLICY, although it is tough, still it can controls the growth
of population in particular country. One child policy has a good effect in economic growth, because
their country has more capable to do more on their economic system. The main purpose of this
policy is to reduce the enormous growth of population. Also having ONE CHILD POLICY in your
country helps everybody to have family planning, so that no family will struggle in having many
child and they will be focused on their only child in providing what he/she needs and wants.

REYESUE:
(SECOND POINT IF AGREE)

I agree about one child policy, because we need to decelerate the population. The one child
policy gives an idea that we need a systematic family planning. It can help the family to lessen
their financial need, also it has advantages of reducing the number of waste every day. For example
China is the country that has one child policy, because China is known as world's most populous
country, so that they implement this policy in order for them to control the population.

MEJIASUE:
(THIRD POINT IF AGREE)

I agree, because with the help of this policy it can control the growing population in a
country, because a high population can cause a high percentage of poverty and if there's a high
percent of poverty, there are many people who will suffer. Low population can cause more job
opportunities and low crowded people so that traffics can be lessen. And also if we have this kind
of policy, the percentage of adoption can also be lessen. There will be no more kids who will
suffer, the parents don't have to adopt their kids for money because they can support their children
financially.
DELA CRUZUE:
(FOURTH POINT IF AGREE)

I agree because with this policy in our country it will help a lot because it will reduce our
population. It is good for our over populated country it may reduce the number of poor people. It
is also good for our own planet because less people means less harm and pollution to our planet so
that it can heal itself from the damage we've done to it. The parents can also pay more attention
to their one and only child. This child will have a higher potential on having a good life in the
future and can help others.

(CONCLUSION)

GLORIASUE
(CONCLUSION IF AGREE)

In conclusion, the implementation of ONE CHILD POLICY will help a lot in our
community. ONE CHILD POLICY has been beneficial. If you think about it not only this policy
benefits in terms of curbing population growth. One child policy also helps in aiding economic
growth, improving the health and welfare of women and children, and a large reduction in
abortions of unapproved pregnancies. If we think of it, one child policy will make the community
more controlled because every family will only have one child, this will help our families more
financially stable and more controlled. Thus, for us we agree in implementing one child policy.
Thank you for listening, good day!

(INTRODUCTION)
CANLASUE:

Good afternoon, everyone. I am Via Gail Canlas together with Jemric Aldaba, Gabrielle
Gloria, Ralph Vincent Reyes, Kennedy Meija, and Kobe Dela Cruz.

And at this moment, we would oppose the One Child Policy program’s implementation as
a response to a country’s rapidly growing population.

China’s controversial one-child policy, in some ways was successful: intended to curb
overpopulation, prevented an estimated of 400 million births and reduced the country’s birth ratio
to just 1.7. Yet, it leaves multiple after-effects: now, China must face concerns of an aging
population, shrinking labor force, and gender imbalance.
(BODY)

ALDABASUE:
(FIRST POINT IF DISAGREE)

I disagree about ONE CHILD POLICY because this is not the only way to reduce the
growth of population. If the goal is to reduce the population why don't we try to implement the
family planning instead of one child policy? One child policy may affect the existing family that
has more than one children in their family. One child policy can cause of abortion cases which is
illegal in other countries. Population can be controlled in many other ways, not just implementing
one child policy.

REYESUE:
(SECOND POINT IF DISAGREE)

I disagree with one child policy, because there will be a widespread of abortions that should
not be done. Especially against the will to have another child who can take care of them when they
get older. It is also violates the UN policies on reproductive right (Reproductive health policies).

MEJIASUE:
(THIRD POINT IF DISAGREE)

I disagree, because if ONE CHILD POLICY implemented to our country it's hard for the
Philippines to lessen the growing population, so the one-child policy is not a good idea. These
days, the Philippines is facing a never ending teenage pregnancy that causes a growing population,
but the aging population impacts economic growth. The birth of more people means there will be
a greater number of parents investing in their youths. So tell me, imagine yourself as a parent and
you agreed that the Philippines should consider One child policy what will you do if you or your
partner gave birth and yet you have one child, what will you do? Abortion? Every single person in
this world has the right to live and to be a citizen.
DELA CRUZUE:
(FOURTH POINT IF DISAGREE)

I disagree of having one child policy in our country because it’s not fair for example you
violated the one child policy you will face some kind of punishment. Is it right to take punishment
for having a baby? I don't think so. If there is more children there's more opportunity for the family
to escape poverty or to be rich. If a family has many children it will be happier for them and it will
be good for their future because many can take care of their parents if they become old not just
one.

GLORIASUE:
(CONCLUSION IF DISAGREE)

In conclusion, the implementation of ONE CHILD POLICY will not help in our
community. ONE CHILD POLICY is not the only way or solution in the growth of our population.
If you think about it, one child policy can cause a widespread of abortion. And if you think about
the bright side, not implementing one child policy will make our families in the community happier
for them. And in conclusion having one child policy is like not allowing a person in this world has
the right to live and be a part of this world. Thus, for us we are disagreeing in the implementation
of one child policy. Thank you for listening, good day!
