A Perfect Home for Polar Bears

Here in the Arctic, it is January-winter time-and the temperature is -30°C. It
isn't easy to live here, but the polar bear is adapted to this extreme place. Its
fur looks white, but it's actually transparent-you can see through it. Under the
fur, the polar bear has black skin. The bear's thick fur keeps it worm in the cold
weather, and also, because it looks white, it helps to hide the bear in the snow.
The polar bear has very big paws with thick fur on them. These big paws make
A polar bear
it easier for the bear to walk on the ice and snow. They also help the bear swim.

Polar bears eat seals and they can travel for thousand s of kilometers to look
for food . They have a very good sense of smell-it's strong enough to smell a
seal from 1.6 kilometers away. When it smells a seal below the ice, the bear will
stand by the ice for hours-sometimes days-waiting for the sea l to come up.

For most animals, the Arctic is a difficult place to live. But it's the perfect home

There's thick snow on the ground, and it's -4°C. The dogs are running
around. They want to start their work for today. First. the guide gives us

running. There are usually between eight and twelve dogs for each
sled, and together they can move very fast! It's scary but also very

The Ferrari Factory

Ferrari is one of the most famous b ra nds of sports car in the world.
Its yellow and black "prancing horse" logo is known around the
world, and Ferrari has the record for the most wins in Formula 1
competitions . So where are these amazing sports cars made?
They all come from the Ferrari factory in their home country-Italy.

The Ferrari factory is in the town of Maranello. The factory is

a huge place-as big as 50 soccer fields-with 45 different
buildings . It takes about three weeks to ma nufacture a Ferrari.
Different parts of the car are put together in different buildings.
Then the car is tested carefully. For the final and most important
test, the car is driven around a special racetrack at the factory.

Ferrari doesn't make many cars. Toyota, for example, makes

millions of cars every year, but Ferrari only makes 7,000 cars a
year. Would you like to buy a Ferrari? You have to be rich, and you
have to wait! The cheapest new Ferrari costs around $280,000,
and people usually have to wait for two years before their Ferrari

But the owners of the Titanic made some terrible mistakes.

The people on the ship didn't know where to go if there was an

There's a recipe for thin, fried slices of potato in an English cookbook from 1822, but today's potato
chips ore much thinner. They were invented by George Crum in 1853. George Crum worked as a chef
at a restaurant in Saratoga Springs, in the US. Saratoga Springs is near the Adirondack Mountains
in New York State. One day, a customer at the restaurant ordered some french fries. When he ate
them, he said they were too thick. So Crum cut the french fries into very thin slices, fried them again,
and added a lot of salt. Too much salt isn't good for your health. The customer loved them! After that,
potato chips became a very popular dish at the restaurant.
