REFLECTION
As a Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) student, studying
Teaching Multigrade Classes (ELEC1) has been an enlightening and
thought-provoking experience. It has broadened my understanding of
inclusive education and challenged my preconceived notions about
traditional classrooms and classes. Through this subject I have learned
about the complexities of addressing diverse student needs across different
grade levels, emphasizing the importance of flexible lesson planning and
personalized attention that requires a lot of considerations. Collaboration
among students and creating a supportive environment has emerged in my
realization as crucial factors for academic and social success.
This subject has sparked my curiosity about innovative teaching
strategies and instructional approaches. I have gained a deeper
appreciation for the challenges and rewards associated with teaching
multigrade classes. It has inspired me to explore creative ways to engage
students of different ages simultaneously, making the learning process
enjoyable and effective. Through different quizzes and activities attach here
in my portfolio, discussions, and practical experiences through teaching
demonstration, I have developed a solid foundation for my future career as
an educator, equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to create
impactful learning experiences for my future students.
Furthermore, while I may not have had the opportunity to teach a full
multigrade class, I was able to demonstrate my teaching skills in a micro
classroom setting. Although it was a limited experience, it allowed me to
apply the principles and strategies I had learned in Teaching Multigrade
Classes (ELEC1) and observe their effectiveness in practice. This
demonstration reinforced my belief in the importance of differentiated
instruction and individualized support for each student's unique learning
needs. It also highlighted the significance of considering proper classroom
and time management and as well as the importance of embarking suitable
knowledge with consideration to my student’s capacity and level of mastery
to foster effective collaboration and deep understanding. Overall, this brief
teaching and learning experience served as a valuable stepping stone
towards my goal of becoming an effective and adaptable educator not only
in multigrade setting but to every class that I will be at in the future, whether
it is monograde, multilevel, or multi age class.
