PART 3: Trọng âm từ có 2 âm tiết
1. Quy tắc chung
1.1. Danh từ & Tính từ hai âm tiết: trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết thứ nhất.
VD: ‘better, ‘sister, ‘circle, ‘person, ‘early, ‘happy, ‘service
* Ngoại lệ: Nếu âm tiết thứ hai có chứa nguyên âm đôi hoặc nguyên âm dài thì trọng âm sẽ rơi vào âm tiết
thứ hai.
VD: de’sign, ba’lloon, es’tate, mis’take, a’lone, as’leep, to’day, to’night.

1.2. Động từ 2 âm tiết: trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết thứ hai.


VD: in’vest, co’llect, con’nect.
* Ngoại lệ: Nếu âm tiết thứ hai có nguyên âm ngắn hoặc có chứa “er, en, ish, age” ở cuối thì trọng âm sẽ
rơi vào âm tiết thứ nhất.
VD: ‘enter, ‘open, ‘manage, ‘happen, ‘answer, ‘listen, ‘finish, ‘study, ‘offer, ‘damage.

a. Zero articles
Các trường hợp không dùng mạo từ:
- Tên phố, công viên, sông, hồ, bãi biển, thị trấn, thành phố, đảo, và hầu hết các quốc gia.
Ex: They are visiting Hanoi, Huế, and Đà Nẵng in Vietnam. (Họ sẽ đi thăm Hà Nội, Huế và Đà Nẵng ở
Việt Nam.)

Ta dùng “the” trong các trường hợp sau:
- Tên riêng của 1 số quốc gia: the United States of America (Mỹ), the United Kingdom (Vương quốc Anh),
the Netherlands (Hà Lan), the Philippines (Philippin), the United Arab Emirates (Các Tiểu vương quốc Ả
Rập Thống Nhất), the Czech Republic (Cộng hòa Séc)
- Tên riêng của các tòa nhà nổi tiếng, bảo tàng, khách sạn, nhà hàng: the Empire State Building (tòa nhà
Empire State), the House of Parliament (tòa nhà Quốc hội), the Ritz-Carlton Hotel (khách sạn Ritz-
Carlton), the White House (Nhà Trắng), the Louvre Museum (bảo tàng Louvre)
2. Past Simple with irregular verbs (Thì Quá khứ đơn với động từ bất quy tắc)

a. Cách dùng
- Thì quá khứ đơn được sử dụng để diễn tả một hành động đã xảy ra và kết thúc trong quá khứ.
Ex: We held a bake sale last week. (Chúng tôi đã tổ chức gian hàng bán bánh gây quỹ vào tuần trước.)
- Thời gian thực hiện hoạt động có thể đặt ở đầu câu hoặc cuối câu.
Ex: Last month, I bought a new car. (Tháng trước, tôi đã mua một cái ôtô mới.)
Last night, he was in Central Park. (Tối hôm qua anh ấy đã ở Công viên Trung tâm.)

I arrived at Changi Airport on Monday morning. I was tired after the flight. I checked in at a hotel and
